Supported by a Government of India grant, and following the approach of Owner Driven Reconstruction (ODRC), UNDP has partnered with the ODR Collective (ODRC), a network of India-based institutions, including SEEDS Technical Services (STS), Hunnarshala Foundation, UNNATI – Organization for Development Education, and Centre for Eco centric Development and Peoples’ Action (CEDAP) to work in 6 Gaupalikas and 2 Nagarpalikas, covering 26,912 houses. STS functions as ODRC secretariat with the executive director of STS as current convener of ODRC.

The project aims to provide socio-technical facilitation services through enhancement of homeowners’ awareness, ensuring adequate skill building of artisans, enabling house owners to incorporate disaster resistant features in their houses and comply with the government norms.

Job Description

  • Lead the socio-technical facilitation activities undertaken by gaupalika Teams, particularly providing on-site door-to-door advice to the house owners on safer reconstruction using appropriate technology
  • Provide guidance, support and establish coordination with the gaupalika teams at the local level, specially Awas Nirman Saathi (trained masons), for effective delivery of socio-technical support
  • Provide guidance and hand holding support to the Mobile Van Engineers for effective mobilization of Mobile Technology Clinic on safer construction
  • Ensure close coordination within the district team and core technical team, to address/resolve the issues related to technical aspects of reconstruction at the household level

Qualification:

  • Bachelors or Masters in civil engineering or architecture

Experience:

  • Bachelors with 5 years or Masters with 3 years of relevant experience civil engineering or architecture 
  • Demonstrated technical skills in safer construction and alternative construction technology
  • Experience of working with or exposure to hilly districts of Nepal
  • Demonstrated social skill of coordinating with different stakeholders and facilitating discussions
  • Demonstrated skills on preparing quality reports and other knowledge products
  • Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc.) and drawing software (AutoCAD)

Language:

  • Fluency in Nepali and English at professional level are essential
  • Ability to speak language of the hilly region (Tamang, Gurung, etc.) will be added advantage

Competency:

  • Ability to work and act under pressure and with discretion in a politically and socially sensitive environment with a minimum of comfort
  • Ability to travel under harsh conditions in rough terrain within the country whenever required
  • Ability to ride motor bike in the hilly terrain of the country with a valid driving license
