About Us
National Women Commission Nepal is a constitutional body with the provision of new constitution of Nepal, 2015 (Part 27, other Commission, Article 252-254). The Commission was established on 7th March 2002. The National Women Commission (NWC) is governed by the Rastriya Mahila Aayog Ain, 2074. The constitution of Nepal has given NWC the responsibility of Gender equality, Women empowerment and to carry out research on any women related legal provisions and strengthen the rules and regulations to minimize social malpractices against women and promote women rights. The commission has timely carried out various awareness programs and promoted women rights for strengthening the position of women in the society. NWC since the beginning has worked actively in promoting and strengthening the rights of women, developing policies for advocating women rights and these fall under the daily chores of the commission. For this, NWC has done Gender studies and Gender monitoring and recommend it to the policymakers.

Nepal is a signatory of various international treaties and covenants related to women’s rights. NWC is the official body to keep an eye on the effective implementation of these treaties and covenants in Nepal. In addition to this NWC comes up with measures for the effective implementation. Alongside, policy advocacy is a major duty of NWC.
