Position Overview:

The Education Counselor will provide guidance and support to students regarding academic planning, career exploration, and personal development. This role involves assisting students with navigating educational pathways, course selection, goal setting, and overcoming academic challenges. The Education Counselor will work directly with students, parents, and faculty to ensure that students are equipped with the necessary tools and resources for success in their academic journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide individual counseling to students about course selection, academic planning, and academic performance. Assist students in setting realistic educational goals and developing strategies to meet them.
  • Offer career counseling services, including helping students explore potential career paths, internships, and employment opportunities. Guide students in creating resumes, preparing for interviews, and developing job-search strategies.
  • Help students improve their study habits, time management, and organizational skills to enhance their academic performance.
  • Provide guidance to students who are dealing with personal, social, or emotional challenges that may impact their education. Offer referrals to appropriate support services when necessary.
  • Keep students informed about various educational programs, scholarships, university admissions, and career opportunities available to them.
  • Work closely with faculty, school administrators, and other educational staff to ensure that students receive the support and resources they need to succeed.
  • Assist in administering assessments to evaluate students’ academic strengths and areas of improvement. Use assessment results to develop personalized action plans
  • Organize and conduct workshops, seminars, and other events related to academic success, career readiness, and personal development.
  • Provide support for students in crisis situations by offering immediate guidance and referring them to appropriate counseling or mental health services.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records of counseling sessions, student progress, and any interventions provided, in accordance with privacy laws and institutional guidelines.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • Tertiary qualifications in counseling, education, psychology, or a related field (Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred).
  • Previous experience in academic counseling, educational support, or a related field (2+ years preferred).
  • Knowledge of the Australian education system, including primary, secondary, and tertiary education pathways.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to assess student needs and provide tailored solutions to help students achieve their academic and career goals.
  • Empathy, patience, and the ability to build trust with students facing academic or personal challenges.
  • Familiarity with counseling tools, academic assessment methods, and relevant software or systems used in educational settings.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, including international students.
  • Experience in leading workshops or group counseling sessions.
  • Ability to create and maintain rapport with both students and parents.
  • Familiarity with career assessment tools and job market trends.

Additional Information:

  • Works Hours: 9am to 5:30 pm
  • Lunch and snacks provided by the office
  • Working days: Monday to Friday
