Raleigh International Nepal (RIN) is a subsidiary of RIUK and has been working in Nepal since 2015. Our Country office is in Khumaltar, Lalitpur Nepal. Overall Purpose of the Role:

The Driver is part of the country staff team who is responsible for representing and delivering Raleigh International’s interests in the country. Raleigh’s aim is to develop a number of long-term Country programmes that deliver sustainable development through young people.

The role of Driver is to support the Logistics Manager to deliver the programmes in-country. Driving vehicles in off-road in different district’s communities and in Kathmandu valley to accomplish the RIN program on time and smoothly.

Principle Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

Under the direction/supervision of the Logistics Manager, the Driver is responsible for providing driving services to the Raleigh personnel or other guests, as requested. The Driver is responsible for driving effectively and safely and is responsible for vehicle security at all time while driving.

Specific Tasks:

More specifically, the Driver will:

  • Verify the vehicle, prior to starting it, if any defect, report to the supervisor. This will entail using a checklist to be signed following each verification
  • Drive the vehicle safely and effectively, adopting and honoring Gov/N driving and traffic rules and regulation as required. The Driver will be directly responsible for any violation of these rules
  • Wash and clean the office vehicle as required
  • Before any field trip, check thoroughly the vehicle to be used ensuring the oil level is normal, the vehicle is clean, verify the tyres, verify all the lights etc. as per the checklist. Report the checklist to the supervisor in advance of departure
  • Maintain and up-date completely the vehicle log books for any ride or field trip. The Driver will be held responsible if the logbook is not properly updated
  • Immediately report any defect (minor or major) to the supervisor
  • Immediately report any accident, to the supervisor, from the location of the accident, by any means available, for insurance purpose
  • Deliver and collect official mail, messages, parcels and make the payment of various office utilities bills as requested
  • Execute the maintenance schedule as prescribed by the Logistics Manager
  • Treat Raleigh personnel or guests with courtesy, politeness and helpfulness, at all times while picking up, dropping off and driving the Raleigh vehicles
  • No answering or holding phones whilst driving. Must be complete standstill before holding a phone and must not slowly drive off whilst talking
  • Wear appropriate footwear at all times whilst driving - sandals/slippers are not appropriate footwear
  • Responsible to ensure that all people in the car are wearing a seatbelt at all times.
  • Wear a seatbelt at all times
  • No drinking whilst on duty
  • Keep within speed limits – 60km national highways; 40km off road and Kathmandu city
  • Perform any other related duties as and when required by the Logistics Manager and
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Country director/Country Operations Manager. 

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Must have 5 years of driving experience
  • Experience of working with and motivating volunteers from different backgrounds, nationalities and ages
  • Experience of working in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and diverse environment
  • Experience of working with and developing young people
  • Have high levels of integrity and sound judgement
  • The ability to deal with conflict and overcome challenges
  • Language – Good in oral and written English
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Ability to work collaboratively with volunteers and peers and under the direction of the Logistics Manager
  • Commitment to work on call, staying at the Volunteer house if required, during the employment period
  • Willingness and ability to frequently travel to remote areas and stay in the community and training centers along with the volunteers and RIN staff
  • Grade Ten class pass (SLC/SEE pass)

Desirable:

  • A good understanding and experience of international development, environmental and sustainable development
  • Experience of working long hours required to achieve the aims and objectives of the role.

Other Information:

Holiday entitlement;

  • As per the Raleigh International Nepal National Personnel Regulation, the holiday entitlement for full-time staff is 25 working days per year, plus 13 public holidays

Office hours: Normal office hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00 am - 5.00 pm.

However, weekend, early morning and evening working may be required as per the nature of the job.
