Karkhana is looking for a dynamic and experienced teacher trainer and curriculum developer who can effectively implement and improve adoption of Karkhana products. 

Job Duration: At least 2 years

Salary: Nrs 50,000 - Nrs 65,000 per month based on experience and fit.

About the role:

The Director of Teacher Training and Curriculum Development’s responsibilities fall into two distinct but related areas. First, the role is responsible for ensuring that teachers in all of Karkhana’s client schools are sufficiently skilled and motivated touse our products effectively. Many great educational products fall apart at the point of implementation because teachers are not adequately skilled and not comfortable enough to teach in new ways. This role should ensure that Karkhana products overcome this challenge and are adopted by teachers.

Second, this role is responsible for modifying and adjusting Karkhana lessons plans and products on the basis of teacher feedback as well as classroom observation. In this role, you may also be asked to create - in collaboration with the Head Teacher - new lessons that align to a variety of curriculum both fromSouth Asia (Nepal, CBSE) and global (PYP, IPC).

Scope of work and Accountability

Teacher training

  • Prepare annual plan and schedule for teacher development for Karkhana products
  • Modify, Design and Execute the teacher training program for all Karkhana products throughout the year as per the schedule
  • Create and maintain documentation of teacher training programs like the lesson plans, feedback, reflection and teachers attendance.

Teacher and school support

  • Facilitate demo sessions for teachers, students, parents and school leaders in coordination with the Director of Sales
  • Handle queries related to the academic side of Karkhana products
  • Support teachers to solve their challenges and issues regarding the Karkhana products physically and virtually
  • Prepare and send teacher support materials as per the need
  • Model, observe, co-teach class and give feedback
  • Ensure effective use of Google Classroom used as a teacher support platform.

Instructional design

  • Upgrade Karkhana products based on the feedback
  • Modify existing lesson plan, materials, workbook, teacher guide, assessment questions etc based on the feedback
  • Conduct classroom observations to see how the product is being implemented
  • Interview teachers to know their challenges while implementing the product.

Monitoring and Evaluation

  • Keep track of school health indicators
  • Keep track of participation of teachers in scheduled teacher
  • Evaluate and act on maintaining a good school health indicator
  • Keep track of engagement of teachers in online learning management system
  • Take feedback about the Karkhana product from different stakeholders and send it as part of monthly report
  • Document the feedback on Karkhana lessons.

Coordination and Reporting

  • Coordinate demo sessions for teachers, students, parents and school leaders in coordination with the director of sales
  • Coordinate with production and procurement lead to ensure delivery of Karkhana kits in school
  • Coordinate with the school coordinators for smooth Karkhana product implementation
  • Coordinate with sales representatives to maintain good school health
  • Send weekly school health indicator reports to the Finance team, Sales Team and Executive Team.
  • Send monthly product reports to the Head Teacher
  • Hold meetings with stakeholders and communicate about the school health indicator and how to improve it.

Skills and Competencies Required:

  • Ability to design hands-on learning experiences
  • Ability to design and execute teacher development programs on use of materials and hands-on methods inside the classroom
  • Ability to motivate and inspire teachers to adopt hands-on learning methods
  • Ability to understand the changes and trends in the education sector in Nepal
  • Ability to build effective relationships with school coordinators, teachers and parents
  • Ability to understand teachers' needs and to address them
  • Adaptive and flexible mindset that can adjust to quickly changing conditions
  • Ability to design metrics to measure the progress of a program
  • Advanced computer skills, especially with G Suite tools like doc, sheet, slides, google classroom etc. CRM, online facilitation and collaboration tools like Mural.

Preferences and requirements :

  • Four years of experience as a school principal or head of department or senior teacher coordinator
  • Four years of experience of using materials while teaching in the classroom
  • Experience of designing and running teacher development programs on use of materials and hands-on methods inside the classroom
  • Network with teachers especially in school level education
  • A strong motivation to bring change in the way science is taught
  • Education: Master’s degree in education preferred. However, all intended degrees should be completed and candidates should be focused on their career
