Job Description

Purpose: World Vision have established the Innovation Lab as part of the Nepal Earthquake Response, in order to identify, develop and prototype new ideas in humanitarian relief and recovery in Nepal. The Innovation Lab will incubate multi-disciplinary project teams as they prove concepts through field testing, supporting them to scale up for adoption in Nepal and replication in future disaster preparedness and response globally.
To contribute towards creating a self-sustaining and self-managing process of community improvement, access to basic needs in the community in a safe and protected environment through active community participation in trainings.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the Innovation Lab Manager to find and manage projects which develop and incubate innovation in the humanitarian sector. This could include new product designs, social business ideas, alternative response programming, designing and leading research or any ideas which push beyond the current limits of humanitarian response.
  • Identify, develop and manage partnerships with individuals, communities, businesses, local and international NGOs, and government agencies, to bring value to the Innovation Lab.
  • Work as a cross-cultural liaison to facilitate the building of trust and collaboration with Nepali people, both in Kathmandu as well as in regional and rural communities.
  • Manage activities, resources, equipment and information to ensure excellence in the operation of the Innovation Lab and the execution of its projects, with the support of the Innovation Lab Manager.
  • Monitor, track and and document Lab activities in order to report on progress and share results, best practice and learnings.
  • Coordinate with Communications Team to document and promote work of Innovations Lab for external stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Support the scale up of tested, piloted initiatives, services and products through collaboration with the Programs Team.
  • Promote a culture of Innovation through effective cultivation of ideas, best practices and harnessing of lessons.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience required:

  • A Master’s Degree in Business Administration or similar field from an accredited university.
  • Five to seven years of experience in an incubator, start-up advisory, social enterprise or any kind of entrepreneurial experience.
  • This position requires someone who can see through an idea from inception to implementation: A team player with leadership qualities and excellent project coordination skills; a relationship builderwhocanbringtogetherpeopleandcommunities; andaprofessionaloperatorwithapositive attitude, organization and dependability.
  • Ability to solve complex problems and to exercise independent judgment.
  • Experience working in a Nepal, with fluency in Nepali and strong knowledge of Nepali people, culture and society.
  • Prior experience working in a social enterprise, NGO or humanitarian aid
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Good oral/written and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work on a cross-cultural environment with a multi-national staff.
