Reporting To: Project Technical Coordinator

Role Overview:

The Coordination Officer will play a key role in strengthening coordination among local governments, community groups, project stakeholders, and partner organizations to ensure effective implementation of climate adaptation, food security, disaster risk reduction, and community resilience activities under the CCAM2 project.

The position requires a highly motivated professional with strong community mobilization, coordination, and capacity-building experience, particularly in rural and vulnerable communities.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Coordination & Project Facilitation:

Facilitate coordination among civil society groups, local governments, and project teams in Helambu Rural Municipality.
Support coordinated implementation of CCAM2, CWISH, and RCRD initiatives.
Strengthen functional collaboration between CCAM2 and CWISH for effective implementation of common activities and knowledge sharing.
Assist the Local Climate Champion (LCC) in engaging vulnerable households in Farmer Group (FG) programs, Farmer Field Schools (FFS), and Community Forest User Groups (CFUGs).
Support vulnerable households by linking them to seeds, organic fertilizers, food production initiatives, and market systems.
Assist in updating Hazard Ranking, Vulnerability Assessments, and wellbeing rankings.
Identify and recommend climate adaptation options suitable for households based on wealth and vulnerability categories.
Coordinate with local stakeholders to ensure effective implementation, monitoring, and reporting of project activities.

2. Social Mobilisation, Capacity Building & Food Security:

Build the capacity of Local Climate Champions in social mobilisation, advocacy, communication, and livelihood analysis.
Address challenges and recommendations identified during CCAM Phase I and monitoring processes in consultation with the Supervisor/SC.
Coordinate support for subsistence households, including families with persons with disabilities, to improve food and nutrition security.
Facilitate school-based nutrition and kitchen garden initiatives in coordination with teachers and CWISH.
Coordinate healthy food support initiatives for children from deprived families.
Coordinate school vegetable production and tree plantation activities with the Agriculture and Forestry Officers.
Support organization of Child Protection and Disaster Management capacity-building events for focal teachers.
Promote inclusion and participation of disadvantaged and marginalized groups in project interventions.

3. Disaster Risk Reduction & Community Resilience:

Coordinate with local governments and project teams to strengthen the capacity of Disaster Management Committees (DMCs), First Responders, and Disaster Management Focal Teachers.
Monitor implementation progress of Local Adaptation Plans of Action (LAPA), particularly in landslide- and flood-prone settlements.
Support preparedness planning, including evacuation plans for persons with disabilities and vulnerable households.
Coordinate disaster preparedness drills in schools and communities according to contingency plans.
Support community awareness and preparedness initiatives related to climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.

Educational Qualification:

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Environmental Studies, Natural Resource Management, Agriculture, Rural Development, Social Development, or related field.

Experience Requirements:

Minimum 5 years of professional experience in natural resource management, climate adaptation, community development, or community-based project implementation.
Prior experience working with local governments, civil society organizations, and vulnerable communities will be highly preferred.
Experience in NGO/INGO-funded projects and multi-stakeholder coordination is considered an advantage.

Additional Requirements:

Strong interpersonal, facilitation, and community mobilisation skills.
Ability to work effectively in remote areas with local governments, farmers, community groups, and vulnerable populations.
Willingness to travel extensively within project areas, including frequent field visits on foot.
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic NGO/INGO working environment.
Strong team collaboration and relationship-building skills.
Willingness to reside in Helambu (preferably with family) is mandatory.
Proficiency in Nepali and English is required.
Knowledge of the Tamang and/or Hyolmu language will be considered an added advantage.
