Consultant Opportunity

LWR is seeking a highly qualified and experienced Nepal National Aquaculture Automation Specialist for general feasibility studies to promote and increase high value aquaculture products for business. This consultant will undertake, but not be limited to, the following activities to complete the tasks together with an international consultant as a team-

• Evaluate Existing Automated Aquaculture Technologies Worldwide, in Asia, and Specifically in Nepal, Offering Recommendations for the project team to consider.
• Create a Conceptual Framework for Implementing Strategies Across Different Sectors in Nepal, Including Research, Academia, and Commercial Operations.
• Examine the High-Value Aquaculture Value Chain, Focusing on Various Regions within Nepal.
• Conduct an Economic Cost-Benefit Analysis on the Utilization of Biological and Mechanical Filters for Waste Management, Electricity Consumption with Backup Systems, and the Adoption of Plastic/Glass Fiber Tanks. Evaluate their Availability and Trade Opportunities within Nepal.
• Facilitate the Promotion and Establishment of Automated Aquaculture Technologies in Nepal.

Deliverables

The following deliverables are expected from the Nepal National Aquaculture Automation Specialist.

• Feasibility report and recommendation on how automated technologies could be intervened as climate change adaptation tool in aquaculture and how academia, researcher and extension should prioritize with special reference to increase aquaculture production. 
• Designing automated systems economically suitable for research and commercial types for growing high value aquaculture species. 
• Training courses delivered for 'Training for Trainers' on intensive and super intensive automated systems. 
• Develop booklets and guidebooks on aspects of automated systems in Nepalese socio-economic situation. 
• Development of different types of systems and indoor production of high values aquaculture products in close coordination with an international consultant and the project team. 
• Provide support to setup suitable automated systems in different parts of Nepal.
• Final report submission 

Level of Effort and Timeline

The ToR is expected to be completed by both remote and field work. Field visits will be required to Simara and the implementation regions during the consultancy. The prospective timeline for the selected consultant is to start March 2024 and submit deliverables by end of June 2024 for 40 days of effort. All terms will be agreed upon in the consultant contract.

Requirements

The Nepal National Aquaculture Automation Specialist should possess the following qualifications:

• Advanced degree in agriculture /aquaculture engineering.
• Nepal National
• Proven experience working with AQUACULTURE AUTOMATION SPECIALIST (AAS) technologies as operator, equipment supplier, designer, researcher, and academia.
• Relationship of AQUACULTURE AUTOMATION SPECIALIST (AAS)associated with urbanization and agricultural land transforming into aquaculture ponds. 
• Cross-cultural awareness and ability to work amongst a diverse group of staff, partners, and external stakeholders. 
• Strong verbal and written communication, writing and technical skills.
• Fluent in English, Nepali and knowledge of local languages of the projects working area will add value. 
• Ability to communicate technical matters effectively to a wide audience. 
• Microsoft package: Word, Excel; PowerPoint, required.

Travel within the project area in Nepal.
