The Himalayan Innovative Society (THIS), established in 2003, is a non-governmental organization working closely with the Nepal Government in the family reintegration of children rescued from vulnerable child care institutions in Nepal. We work in communities to prevent family-child separation through community awareness informing the psychological harms of child institutionalization, educating parents and strengthening gatekeeping system in Nepal.

We have supported over 1000 children directly and indirectly through our various projects since 2003.

We have a transitional care center in Kathmandu, where children rescued by Nepal Government from vulnerable child care institutions are rehabilitated for a temporary period, healed, and prepared for family reunification.  

We seek amazing and passionate Social Workers to join our team.

Job Description

Project Mala IV: Integrated Child Protection Project (ICP Project)
Workplace: Humla (Simikot, Chhipra and Raya VDC)
Job Period: 15 August 2013 - 31st December 2013 ( 4.5 month Contract )
Reports to: District Health & protection programme officer
Supervises: N/A

Job Summary

  • Manage overall community mobilization and training programs of the Project in respective VDC's and set priorities in order to reach the established goals of the project
  • Work closely with VDC’s, HF's, HFOMC's, FCHV's, MGs of respective VDCs and she/he is responsible for mobilization of local Clubs/CBOs and other CBOs working in the field of reproductive health/nutrition for the better coordination and collaboration.
  • Collect HMIS data from respective health facilities and FCHVs in a monthly basis and report to H&P programme officer
  • Facilitates program monitoring visits
  • Contributes to and facilitates baseline and end-line surveys as well as to need assessment of upgrading of health facilities
  • Remains informed on current issues and best practices
  • Support in the events and campaign organized by programme as well as government side
  • Follow up the impact of awareness and campaigning activities
  • Ensure timely implementation of the health activities in the community
  • Conduct social surveys/ social audit as and when required or asked by the programme management
  • Attend and facilitation orientation/trainings and meetings of the community, HFOMC, schools officials and other stakeholders when required
  • Provide logistic support during the events and program activities
  • Maintain good relationship with community volunteers and closely work with senior officers and community agencies
  • Contact and inform the participants about the upcoming events
  • Collect necessary baseline information about the area
  • Liaison with institutions working in the project area
  • Develop and maintain the necessary documentation and record of all project and organization activities at community level
  • Frequently home/CBOS visit to motivate the people on health behavior change practices
  • Work closely/in coordination with other social worker/ mobilizers of MALA IV
  • Monthly reporting to the Health & Protection programme Officer
