Raleigh International Nepal (RIN) is a subsidiary of RIUK and has been working in Nepal since 2015. Our Country office is in Khumaltar, Lalitpur Nepal. Reports To: Country Operations Manager (COM)

Closing Date: 15th July 2019 

Nature: fixed-term contractual in nature (inclusive of 6 months probationary period)

Overall Purpose of the Role

The Communications Officer takes the lead to develop and institute a documentation and communication system, acting as a focal person for the development of external communications content and materials. This role is an excellent opportunity for further sharpening and diversifying the existing skills, competencies and experience in communications and knowledge management for sharing and learning across organisations.

Principal Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Take lead in developing and implementing Raleigh Nepal Communication Strategy with Annual Action Plan and Budget in line with the Country Strategy 2017-2020
  • Take lead in ensuring periodic updating and quality and standardization of training materials to be used during various stages of volunteer journey (recruitments, assessments, pre-departure, development week end, induction of TL/VMs and volunteers, phase reviews, changeover, endex, action at home etc) under both ICS and expedition programmes in collaboration of youth development, operations, programme, and finance teams
  • Deliver selected training sessions related to communications and documentation requirements from TL/VMs and Volunteers, while in placement
  • Conduct field visits and document success stories/case studies and prepare short videos highlighting programmatic or thematic achievements, and outcomes for use as training material (e.g. construction of handwashing station, ferrocement tank, tap stands, Polly tunnel) and sharing with wider audience and stakeholders (e.g. behavioural changes in hygiene practices, farming practices, adaptations to climate change, livelihood diversifications, changes in income etc. due to Raleigh interventions, and personal and professional development of HCVs, testimonies of satisfied parents of HCVs, host homes, community leaders, local governments, partners, etc.)
  • Responsible for content development and management, design lay out and periodic regular updating of Raleigh Nepal website in coordination with programme, youth development, operations, and finance teams within the framework conditions given by Raleigh International Head Office
  • Responsible for content management and quality assurance of all Raleigh Nepal blogs and other postings at social media outlets (facebook, twitter, instagram, etc ) and other print and digital media
  • Responsible for development of contents about Raleigh Nepal successes in collaboration of relevant teams for wider reach to the stakeholders through print (newspapers, brochures, flyers, etc.) and digital (radios - jingles, panel discussion, talk shows, songs on volunteerism, etc. and TVs- panel discussion, talk shows, telecasting of short videos etc.) and implementation within the budget
  • Responsible for content editing, design and layout of Raleigh Nepal Semi-Annual and Annual Progress Reports, Impact Reports and other Learning and Sharing Reports and its timely publication
  • Work with the Country Director and Programme Manager to support content editing and design lay out for in-country bids (CN, proposal) for submission within the deadline
  • Responsible for developing and instituting a systematic structure in Raleigh Nepal server for organising the thousands of photos (e.g. by programme themes, placement sites, etc) so that retrieving of required photos becomes easy, less time consuming and cumbersome
  • Support where required for organising stakeholder meetings including assisting with the preparation of agenda, collation of papers, preparing minutes and chasing follow-up actions to deadline
  • Maintain confidentiality over personal information relating to Raleigh staff, volunteers, partners and clients.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Line Manager and/or CD as per the organisational needs

Person Specification

Essential: 

  • Passionate about Raleigh International's vision, mission values and Strategic Objectives and Credo of Raleigh Nepal
  • Passionate about working with young people and volunteerism
  • Proven experience of working in a team and being a Team player 
  • Demonstrable evidences of a clear understanding and competencies on handling of print, digital, social media outlets including web platforms
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation and documentation including infographics skills
  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills
  • Demonstrable competencies of fluent communication both in writing and verbal in English and Nepali
  • Demonstrated higher degree of competencies on handling and management of Information Technology including Adobe suite (Photoshop, Indesign, premier pro), Microsoft package, web-based platforms, social media, infographics, other relevant applications
  • Ability of proactively taking initiatives, assuming multitasking and working and delivering under pressure to meet the deadlines
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Enthusiastic and energetic personality with “Yes, We Can” attitude
  • Flexible to attend evening, overnight, or weekend activities as required

Desirable: 

  • Experience of working with young people
  • Experience of working in a Cross-cultural environment 
  • Demonstrated interest in charity, volunteering and sustainable development work
  • Experience of working in marketing and fund raising 

Education: 

  • At least a Bachelor’s degree in journalism and/or mass communication 
  • Three year’s work experience in the similar field

Other Information

  • The holiday entitlement for full-time staff is 25 working days per year, plus 13 public holidays. The salary and other benefits will be pay as per RIN Personnel Regulation
