Job Description

Purpose of the position

Communications Officer must have a thorough understanding of the organization’s objectives in order to ensure that right image is reflected in all its publications. She/he works on a range of communications and multi-media projects.  This will include developing communications plans, writing and editing content for websites and publications and influencing social media. She/he will provide support and advice to other teams in order to communicate key messages to a variety of audiences.

Major duties and responsibilities

The Communications Officer shall be responsible for the complete communication functions for the organization and works in consultation with the Principal and School Leadership Team members in all communication-related affairs. The Communications Officer has to maintain close working relation with the IT department of the school. 

Some of the major duties and responsibilities of the Communications Officer are outlined below:

  • Prepares periodical newsletters, brochures, calendars, letters, concept papers, proposals and other school related documents required to be produced from the Principal’s office as and when needed.
  • Maintains archives (physical/electronic) of all written tasks in an organized manner, easily retrievable for future references.
  • Prepares and designs contents for advertisements, promotional materials, brochures, handbooks, newsletters, year book etc. and ensure they are ready to be distributed on time.
  • Maintains regular coordination with level coordinators to deliver specific communication tasks e.g. school notices (verbally or in writing), and other written documents.
  • Supervises the website of the School, assists with its contents and ensures they are updated on a regular basis with current news and events.
  • Ensures that archives of photographs of events are maintained chronologically and are easily retrievable as and when needed.
  • Creates rapport with different media outlets (newspapers, radios and television channels) and influence them on the coverage of the activities of the School and their programs as and when required.
  • Develops media ‘narratives’ with respect to the events/occasions and get coverage in traditional and social media as and when required.
  • Assists with designs and contents to be published in various media outlets giving emphasis on branding. Branding measures have to be ethically correct and use social marketing as a tool to promote ULLENS brand.
  • Participates in the preparation of annual budget of the communication unit. 

Requirements

  • Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication and Journalism with at least 1 to 2 years relevant experience. 
  • Language: Bilingual, English and Nepali.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven experience in public relation and media management 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Nepali
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills 
  • Able to deliver to regular deadlines - organized and flexible 
  • Confident, independent and proactive 
  • Excellent people skills 
  • Training in design and photography will be an added benefit

Others: Should hold two wheeler driving license (preferred) and should be willing to travel as needed.
