Communication Officer

The Communication Officer is responsible for managing the overall communications of USAID Clean Air project ensuring strategic, quality, effective and efficient communication to diverse stakeholders. This position is responsible for providing support for planning, reporting, documentation, and management of program activities. The position holder is also expected to be adaptable, proactive, and capable of effectively disseminating knowledge products to diverse stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

Under the overall guidance of the supervisor, work closely with FHI 360 Nepal office Documentation and Communication Manager, project team and take lead for management of all communication related tasks including the followings:

  • Operationalize and implement project’s strategic communication plan aligned with project goals and objectives. 
  • Prepare engaging and informative content, such as articles, newsletters, blog posts, and media updates, to promote the project's activities, achievements, and impacts.
  • Identify key stakeholders, including project beneficiaries, community members, partners, and donors, and establish effective communication channels to engage and inform them about the project's progress.
  • Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, journalists, and influencers to enhance the project's visibility. 
  • Manage the project's social media account and online presence. Create and schedule content, engage with followers, monitor discussions, and analyze metrics to optimize social media performance.
  • Coordinate with FHI 360 communication team to ensure that the project's webpage is up-to-date, user-friendly, and contains relevant and accurate information.
  • Regularly publish project updates, news articles, and other content on the website.
  • Organize and coordinate project-related events, workshops, conferences, and public awareness campaigns. This includes planning logistics, coordinating speakers and participants, and managing event promotion.
  • Closely coordinate with thematic leads and collaborate with designers, photographers, and videographers to create visually appealing and impactful materials such as infographics, photos, videos, and presentations that effectively communicate project messages.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of communication activities through data analysis, surveys, and feedback collection. Use insights to improve communication strategies and tactics.
  • Prepare regular reports on communication activities, outcomes, and challenges. 
  • Provide high quality support to the process of project’s periodic planning and reporting process.
  • Draft narratives for annual plan and budget (Annual Implementation Plan, Operational Plan, quarterly/monthly budget) and periodic reports (including Quarterly Progress Report, Annual Progress Report) as well as for any other reporting requirements of the project.
  • Provide high quality support in periodic program review meetings, document action points and follow up with team members for execution.
  • Review documents and provide quality input and feedback as assigned by the supervisor. 
  • Support for layout, formatting, editing and translation of the documents.
  • Prepare concept notes, meeting minutes, memo, weekly and monthly updates, and any other documents as required.
  • Document all communications, thought leadership products including media coverages in project’s repository.
  • Participate in and contribute to periodic meetings and events.
  • Ensure communication and documentation of success stories, contact matrix, newsletter, production of Social and Behavior Change Communication (SBCC) materials.
  • Timely identify and report supervisor about any issues/challenges/gaps during project implementation.
  • Represent USAID Clean Air at forums as and when required.
  • Conduct any other tasks as delegated by the supervisor, FHI 360 Documentation and Communication Manager, DCoP, and FHI 360 Nepal office Country Director.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, public relations, or a related field with 3 years of experience in above mentioned field. Master’s degree preferable with relevant experience.
  • Experience in managing project communications with diverse stakeholders.
  • Skilled in using various digital and social media platforms, social media management tools, and in content creation such as writing articles, blog posts, press releases, and social media content.
  • Knowledge of media relations practices and experience in engaging with journalists and media outlets
  • Experience in working effectively across various teams within the project and organization and building and sustaining positive working relationships with non-government organizations, private sectors, government, and other stakeholders.
  • Proactive in managing multiple tasks, managing, and working in the virtual work environment, and flexible and open for managing time for working with different teams in different time zones as needed. 
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, team building and management, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent oral and written English and Nepali including documentation skills.
