Americares, an international non-governmental organization registered in the US, has been working in Nepal immediately after Gorkha earthquake in field of health sector recovery, HSS, MHPSS and DRR.

Improving Maternal and Newborn Health (IMANh) is a project that Americares is going to implement in 2 rural municipalities (Khandadevi & Gokulganga) of Ramechhap district in partnership of local NGO-CHURDEP and in close collaboration with MoHP, DHO Ramechhap, local health facilities and rural-municipalities. DEPARTMENT:         Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Recovery 

LOCATION:                Kathmandu with frequent travel to Dhading, Sindhupalchowk and other earthquake-affected districts

REPORTS TO:           Nepal Country Director

Position Summary : The Civil or Structural Engineer will provide expert consulting services on reconstruction projects in Nepal. AmeriCares is working with local partners in Nepal to rebuild health facilities and other structures damaged by the recent earthquakes, and needs the services of an experienced engineer to provide guidance and advice on the feasibility and effectiveness of proposed rebuilding designs, and to potentially develop new concepts for fast, affordable, durable health clinic designs using available materials and local labor. The engineer will then be asked to review bids and oversee temporary and/or permanent reconstruction projects. 

Duration: Initial 4 week assignment with potential for longer-term assignment

Terms of Employment:
All travel, lodging, food, and incidental expenses paid for by AmeriCares. Engineer will be paid a competitive wage

Skills & Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering plus 8 years’ experience or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering with 10 years professional experience in engineering and/or construction project management
  • Experience working in Nepal and professional proficiency in Nepali or Hindi preferred
  • Professional Engineer or national licensed equivalent (e.g. Chartered Engineer) preferred
