About the job

Hey! We’re Story Company.

We’re a dynamic and innovative Full-Stack Digital Agency dedicated to providing world-class tech services and telling compelling stories through engaging content. We're looking for a passionate, professional, and talented Cinematographer to join us in crafting next level visual short films and narrative documentaries.

Overview: As a Cinematographer at Story Company, you will play a crucial role in bringing our creative vision to life. You’ll serve both us and our clients by working closely with our director, AD, and our ultra-creative Studio Team to capture breathtaking visuals. From pre-production planning to post-production collaboration, you’ll ensure that every frame reflects the artistic and technical excellence we desire to achieve.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with directors and the Studio Team on planned productions, assisting with storyboards, visual concepts, and shot lists for scripted narratives and mini documentaries.
  • Work closely with our directors and clients on run-and-gun productions, leading the charge to capture cinematic visuals when creative decisions need to be made on the go and in the field.
  • Operate and maintain all our camera rigs and cinematic equipment to capture high-quality footage.
  • Plan, select, and manage lighting setups to achieve the desired mood and atmosphere for each scene.
  • Assist with scouting locations and evaluating their visual potential.
  • Oversee the setup of shots, including camera angles, movements, and framing.
  • Work closely with our directors and the post-production team to ensure the footage aligns with the overall vision of the project.
  • Ensure all footage is organized, backed up, and archived properly.
  • In between projects, you’ll stay updated and practice the latest cinematography techniques and trends to maintain a cutting-edge approach. In short, when you have downtime, you are constantly improving your craft.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Cinematographer or Videographer in a similar Full-Time role working at a Studio or Business within the film or media industry.
  • Strong portfolio showcasing your cinematography skills. No newbies for this role! You need to be very good at what you do and we’re fully planning on you showing us a thing or two when it comes to visual storytelling.
  • Proficiency with professional camera rigs and lighting equipment. We currently are fully bought into the Sony ecosystem and shoot with Prime GMs as well as Prime Anamorphic Lenses.
  • Excellent understanding of visual storytelling, composition, and color theory.
  • Ability to work onsite and in the field collaboratively and communicate effectively with the Studio Team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing project needs and schedules.
  • Knowledge of post-production processes and the ability to collaborate with editors.
  • Excellent English.
  • Willing to travel up to 2-3 weeks at a time across Asia and potentially further.
  • Very strong and resilient work ethic, willing to wake up early and stay late during filming.
  • Finally, a strong desire to unwind and have fun with the team when the job is done. We have a pretty tight company culture and love to work with those who love to have fun together.

Why Join Story Company?

  • Creative Freedom: Work on diverse international projects that challenge your creativity and technical skills.
  • Collaborative Environment: Join a team of passionate creatives dedicated to producing exceptional stories.
  • Growth Opportunities: Be a part of a growing company with opportunities for professional development and advancement as we pursue a goal of becoming a premiere Film Studio in Asia.
  • Impact: Contribute to projects that have a meaningful impact on communities around Asia.
