Opened in Nepal in 1994, the Alliance Française de Katmandou promotes the French language by offering French classes open to all. It is the only certified French institute in Nepal.

Alliance Française de Katmandou aims to spread the Francophone culture by organizing cultural events, which promote both an intercultural dialogue and diversity. Furthermore, it offers its students free access to its in-house media center.

The Alliance Française de Katmandou welcomes around 1,500 students per year  and more than 6,000 visitors attend cultural events each year.

  • Advance course or diploma course completed from a hospitality school
  • Must have experience of at least 2/3 years in a similar role

  • Motivated and responsible 
  • Ability to walk, stands, and/or bend continuously to perform essential job functions

Job Description

Department: Bistrot

Job title: Chef

Reporting to: Bistrot Manager

Missions:

  • Prepare food for the Bistrot of the Alliance with great attention to presentation and hygiene
  • Be responsible for the cleanliness of all kitchen appliances and utensils
  • Manage the stocks and accountability of the Bistrot
  • Manage and train cooks, waiters and their repartition of work 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Prepare food for the Bistrot of the Alliance with great attention to presentation and hygiene

  • Move throughout the facility and kitchen areas to visually monitor and take action to ensure food quality and service standards are met. 
  • Verify temperatures, judge appearance and taste of products and check preparation methods to determine quality.
  • Give guidance toward improvement and make necessary adjustments for consistency.
  • Create menus and show innovation on new dishes. 

Be responsible for the cleanliness of all kitchen appliances and utensils

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Ensure maintenance of equipment by calling for repairs and training staff on proper use.
  • Using proper standard operating procedures to report and fix these issues.

Manage the stocks and accountability

  • Manage stocks and place orders accordingly to needs and financial possibilities and constraints
  • Ensure all daily and monthly reports are detailed and submitted in a timely matter.
  • Utilize traditional software programs such as Word, Excel, Publisher, PowerPoint and/or Outlook Express.

Manage and train cooks, waiters and their repartition of work 

  • Demonstrate positive leadership characteristics which inspire Team Members to meet and exceed standards
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to provide clear direction to the staff
  • Ensuring that checklists, requisitions and proper opening and closing functions are being completed each shift
  • Assist the Director in Interviewing, selecting, training, supervising, counselling and disciplining outlet staff

Specificity: Support the entire Food & Beverage operations including supervising other areas if necessary, handling special projects, running promotions, handling public relations and marketing
