Functional Responsibilities:
Support in Construction Management:
- Check setting out of the works by the contractor's staff and report any inconsistency to the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect.
- Day-to-day supervision of the works in accordance with the drawings, technical specifications and instructions of the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect;
- Monitor and inspect the construction activities performed by the Contractor;
- Collecting material samples and witnessing quality control tests and submitting the report to the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect;
- Study and verify extent of works done and report to the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect;
- Monitor and report site safety and environmental impacts of construction;
- Assist the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect in discussions with contractor's staff and workers;
- Assist the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect in taking joint measurement of work done with the contractor’s representative at periodic intervals;
- Assist the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect to keep site records relating to materials, labour and plants and equipment at sites;
- Collect data and photograph from the field as well as generate graphs and charts to assist Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect in preparing reports;
- Support to Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect in Stakeholder Management:
- Assist the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect to maintain a working relationship with the project neighbors;
- Provide the visitors to the site with project related information as instructed by the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect
- Immediately report to the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect any comments and observation by the visitors.
- With guidance from Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect, implement approved work packages (including the establishment of milestones) within tolerances set by the Project Manager;
- Assist the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect to insure proper construction management, monitor progress of construction activities, quality, materials, and construction schedule;
- Assist the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect to monitor the construction to compliance with specifications, contracts, and other regulations;
- With the help of the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect, interpret and explain plans, contract terms, work plans to contractor's technical staff;
- Inform the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect of any deviations from the plan;
- Pass on the instructions from the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect and provide guidance and to UNOPS Site Supervisors and the contractor's technical staff;
- Maintain diaries and progress reports as required by UNOPS standard procedures;
- Review exiting practice by contractors and make recommendations as instructed by the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect, where remedial action is required, that will increase safety and quality of work (taking budget constraints into account) in all new and reconstruction programs undertaken by UNOPS;
- Perform any other duties deemed necessary by the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect.
- Assist the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect in preparing Check point Reports and keep records.
- Assist the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect in the hiring of other project technical staff, by marking written tests, assisting in interviews and placement of technical staff.
- Assist the Infrastructure Manager /Lead Architect in maintaining project documentation;
Education/Experience/Language requirements:
Education:
- University (Bachelor's) Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Engineering diploma from a recognized institute with four years’ similar experience will substitute the university degree.
Experience:
- A minimum of two years of experience in building construction, site supervision with focus on progress and quality controlling of building construction, monitoring, reporting, development and coordination in either public or private sector organizations.
- Experience in contracting and/or consulting environment is also an advantage.
Language Requirements:
- Excellent written and oral command of English and Nepali languages
