The Assistant Programme Officer will be responsible for managing Clean up Nepal’s action-research project – Mapping Solid Waste Management Systems of Kathmandu. Clean up Nepal with the support of Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) and Private waste management companies in Kathmandu is going to implement its open-data mapping initiative which involves the use and promotion of the open-data technology platform - Nepal Waste Map (a web-based data dashboard and mobile application). The project is going to be implemented in 3 wards of KMC - Ward 3 (Maharajgunj), Ward 5 (Hadigaun), and Ward 32 (Koteshwor). The key responsibilities will include facilitating and coordinating training, mapping, and data collection activities. You will also facilitate the promotion and use of Nepal Waste Map (an open-data website and mobile application) among the government, private and public sector.

Full-time (40 hours/week) – Kathmandu, Nepal
Salary – NPr. 15 000/- per month + project based transport allowance 

We are looking for a deeply passionate, energetic, enthusiastic, diligent individual who is interested in working with our team at Clean up Nepal to genuinely create positivechange in communities where we work. If you are after a 9 to 5 job, this is probably not for you. If you are a self-starter, care about environmental issues and have a knack for managing people and projects, we are interested in speaking with you.

The Assistant Program Officer will be responsible for managing Clean up Nepal events, activities and communications. The ideal candidate will be proactive, independent, and can handle multiple responsibilities under tight deadlines. S/he will have a strong understanding of how to engage stakeholders online and off. The Assistant Program officer will report directly to the Executive Director. 

In return, Clean up Nepal will provide you a supportive environment to learn and grow both personally and professionally. We will support your growth through active mentorship programs, trainings and ongoing evaluations of progress made.

We are looking for an individual who is able to commit for at least a two year period.

Candidates will be selected for a group interview and further selection will lead to individual interviews. The candidate selected at the end of the recruitment process will undergo a three month probationary period.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a number of projects and events including the Annual
  • Nationwide Cleanup 2016, Green up Nepal, Maskmandu, Safaa Schools
  • Program and the School Level Environment Essay Contest. 
  • -Plan and promote monthly events such as the Clean up Nepal Talk Series and
  • the annual nationwide cleanup.
  • Create a detailed work plan for projects and events, and smoothly follow through
  • on it in a timely manner.
  • Develop, maintain and strengthen relationship with stakeholders, including
  • volunteers, supporters and organizations.
  • Oversee volunteers for activities and events in Kathmandu and other locations.
  • Analyze, evaluate and report on activities and events, and use this information to swiftly make changes and strengthen performance as necessary.
  • Ideate and create content for social media, website and other communications materials.
  • Undertake other tasks as assigned by the Executive Director.

Skills, experience and interest:

  • Completed a Bachelors or Masters degree in Environmental Science or
  • Sustainable Development with strong academic achievements.
  • Work or volunteer experience in event management.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clearly, persuasively and cohesively in Nepali and English.
  • Proactive and independent.
  • Strategic thinker who understands and takes into consideration challenges.
  • Able to handle multiple tasks and stay agile under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent writing, communications, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Bike license and own transportation is required.
  • Fluent in written and spoken Nepali and English.
  • Photography and design experience desirable.
  • An interest or background in the non-profit sector is a plus.
