Position: WASH Infrastructure Engineer - 1 Nos

Duration: Long term Contract

Duty Station: Jajarkot/Surkhet 

Education: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with substantial relevant experience in rural water supply and sanitation, or relevant subjects (Environmental, Electrical, Mechanical, Disaster Risk Management, etc)

Language: Fluency in written and spoken English and Nepali 

Experience and skills: 

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant work experience; 
  • Excellent experience in the feasibility study, detailed engineering survey, scheme design, cost estimation, implementation, monitoring, and quality control of gravity-fed water supply systems; solar-powered water lifting, electrical-powered water lifting, and MUS systems;
  • Extensive experience in survey, design, cost estimation, implementation, monitoring, and quality control of institutional (Schools, Health posts, public) toilets, FSM, and drainage system designs; 
  • Experience in Water Safety Plan, water quality, and water quality parameters testing;
  • Good knowledge of cross-cutting issues like CCA/DRR and GEDSI;
  • Demonstrated computer skills on MS Excel, Auto-CAD, SW Maps application, WSPV3/WSPVB3 water supply design software, ArcGIS, CROPWAT, New_LocClim, etc.
  • Good technical leadership and training facilitation skills; 

Duties: 

  • Technical guidance and support to the technical staff to ensure the quality of WASH infrastructures in the project's rural municipalities and municipalities.
  • Engage and guide technical staff on critical schemes’ detailed surveys, design, cost estimation, and support on the implementation of large water systems, solar and electrical lifting, MUS systems;
  • Support and guide WASH unit staff on the preparation of the bill of quantities and measurement book, and ensure quality of construction materials for WASH infrastructures.
  • Support design, cost estimation, and quality assurance of GEDSI-friendly water supply service points at communities and institutions, GEDSI-friendly institutional toilets, drainage and other facilities; 
  • Ensure construction materials and construction quality of each scheme, along with respective WASH unit team members visiting frequently at construction sites; 
  • Engage in the scheme monitoring with the and provide support for quality work; 
  • Regular cross-checking of WUSC minute book, bookkeeping system, scheme book, etc, and advice to the field team and WUSCs to maintain the quality;
  • Integration of CCA/DRR and GEDSI-friendly design dimensions into relevant technical planning, design, implementation, post-construction, and monitoring processes;
  • Technical support on WSP+++ and Service support center-related activities as needed; 
  • Technical auditing and following up, supervision of the construction of water supply and institutional sanitation facilities; 
  • Support in training materials preparation and training of WASH unit staff; 
  • Support WASH advisors on technical matters for the quality control of WASH infrastructures, monitoring, and capacity-building activities as and when needed; and 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Technical Specialist.
