Established in 1982, Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) is the leading organization in Nepal, focusing on the conservation of birds, their habitats and sites. It seeks to promote interest in birds amongst the general public, encourage research on birds and identify major threats to birds' continued survival. As a result, we are the foremost scientific authority providing accurate information on birds and their habitats throughout Nepal. We provide scientific data and expertise on birds for the Government of Nepal through the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC) and work closely in birds and biodiversity conservation throughout the country.

Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN), the BirdLife International Partner in Nepal, is seeking applications from qualified Nepali candidates for the position of Veterinary Officer for the project “Vultures, Cows and People – Strengthening an Ancient Relationship”.BCN’s Vulture Conservation Program leads efforts in vulture conservation across Nepal in collaboration with CBOs, NGOs, INGOs and Government line agencies.

Duration: One year with the possibility of extension on a contract basis
Duty Station: Kanchanpur, Nepal (with frequent travel across Central to Western Terai districts)
Reports to : Vulture Conservation Program Manager

Main Responsibilities:

The Veterinary Officer will provide professional veterinary expertise to ensure vulture- safe livestock management, strengthen veterinary capacity at the community level, and support cow shelters and dairy cooperatives in adopting sustainable and wildlife- friendly practices. The role requires close collaboration with field teams, Renewable World representatives, local partners, farmers, veterinary practitioners, local government authorities, and other stakeholders to improve livestock health and productivity. The officer will also contribute to research, monitoring, awareness, sensitization, and advocacy programs to strengthen Vulture Safe Zones and reduce threats to vultures from toxic veterinary drugs and poor carcass management

Required skills and education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Science or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant professional experience in livestock health management, wildlife health, or conservation-related veterinary practice.
  • Good understanding of vulture conservation issues and the impacts of veterinary drugs on scavenging bird species.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with local communities, cooperatives, and government authorities.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills in both English and Nepali.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, report writing, and field documentation.
  • Willingness to travel extensively in field conditions across the Terai region.
