Trainee Optical Fiber Engineer will be responsible for supervising, monitoring and guiding a team of optical fiber technicians, perform many of the core technical tasks and ensure timely delivery of fiber services.

Duties & Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

• Determine appropriate fiber for different applications
• Inspect, install and test connectors as per the standards
• Identify damages to fiber optic cables and associated causes
• Install fiber optic cable
• Test fiber optic cable for acceptable losses
• Utilize fiber optic test equipment including an Optical Time Domain Reflectometer ( OTDR ), light source and power meter
• Install and test mechanical and fusion splices as per standards
• Identify and specify components for a fiber optic system
• Budget for losses in fiber optic systems
• Utilize attenuators to adjust power levels ( DBM ) at the receiver

Other  Responsibilities

• Inspect the work of team members including fiber splicer, lineman and assistant team leaders and ensure efficient cable installation, splicing, testing and pulling of cables, service restoration etc.

• Provide detailed report of field splicing activity. Review and interpret underground and aerial fiber optic in existing record, on maps or in field.
• Ensure fiber optic documents & records are well maintained and updated.
• Be responsible for being on the job at short notice to repair damaged fiber optic until service is restored at time of emergencies.
• Be willing to work flexible hours & after hours work when required.
