Blind Youth Association is an organization established by the Blind and Partially Sighted Youth of Nepal. With the vision of ‘BPS people of Nepal enjoying dignified life in an inclusive society’ BYAN is currently working in the area of policy advocacy, education, employment disaster risk reduction, political participation and SRHR of persons with disabilities in general and BPS in particular. Currently, BYAN is working in the support of Nepal Earthquake Recovery Fund (NERF) for the project psychosocial support and menstural health management program for blind and partially sighted students in which we are seeking for the well qualified psychosocial counsellor and support. Blind Youth Association Nepal (BYAN) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering and supporting visually impaired individuals across Nepal. In line with its commitment to promoting the well-being and inclusion of visually impaired individuals, BYAN has identified the need for specialized psychosocial support within blind schools. Recognizing the unique challenges faced by visually impaired students, including mental health issues and psychosocial barriers, BYAN aims to enhance support services tailored to their specific needs.In collaboration with its chapters located in various provinces of Nepal, BYAN seeks to establish a Psycho-Social Support Programme that focuses on addressing the mental health and psychosocial needs of visually impaired students within blind schools. The programme aims to relocate schools to designated districts where BYAN has its chapters, facilitating sustained engagement and support beyond the project duration.Locations of Work:The job vacancies for Psychosocial Counsellor and Support Officer will primarily operate within 13 schools located in the following districts across Nepal:Province 1: Jhapa and MorangProvince 2: BaraProvince 3: Kathmandu and ChitwanProvince 4: KaskiProvince 5: Rupandehi and BankeProvince 6: SurkhetProvince 7: Kailali

Interested individuals for the support should possess the following qualifications:

  • +2 cleared or bachelors running in any field.
  • Previous experience working in a related role, preferably within an educational or community setting.
  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities, particularly visually impaired individuals, is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide practical assistance and support to individuals with disabilities in accessing educational resources, navigating environments, and participating in activities.
  • Experience facilitating peer support groups or socialization activities for individuals with disabilities.
  • Familiarity with the challenges faced by visually impaired individuals in daily life and the ability to offer practical solutions and assistance.

Objective of the assignment:

To provide specialized psychosocial support and assistance tailored to the unique needs of students, thereby promoting their mental health, emotional well-being, and overall integration into the school environment. 

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Psychosocial Counsellor in providing support services to visually impaired psychosocial counsellor.
  • Provide practical assistance to psychosocial counsellor in accessing educational materials, navigating the school environment, and participating in extracurricular activities.
  • Collaborate with school staff and external organizations to ensure the inclusion and integration of visually impaired students.
