Senior MEAL Officer

Contract Type: Fixed Term Contract (Subject to grant approval)
Contract duration: 1 year renewable (the project should last 22 months) 
Duty Station: Kathmandu with frequent and extended field visit
Project Area: Nawalparasi Bardaghat Susta West and Banke districts

Please note that this position is contingent upon funding. 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Lead on the design and rolling out of a MEAL Strategy and Work plan for the Shock responsive Social protection (SRSP) Consortium 
  • Develop an Accountability Framework, including Referral System, Complaints and Feedback Mechanism etc. as part of the wider MEAL Strategy 
  • Organise and ensure the proper and timely implementation of the SRSP MEAL tools, activities, and reporting.
  • Ensure the organisation of learning events, the documentation and promotion of learning and good practice of consortium activities through study Lessons Learnt, Knowledge Management and Evaluations 
  • Represent the SRSP and ACF externally towards local authorities and in relevant forums and working groups
  • Support to Action Against Hunger MEAL work and activities 
  • Fulfil general responsibilities 

Qualifications & Required Skills:

  • Master’s degree in social science, Statistics, Demographics, Food security, Disaster risk management, Public health, Nutrition, Humanitarian and development studies or a relevant discipline with at least four  years of extensive experience in monitoring and evaluation with a humanitarian and / or development agency -or Bachelor’s degree in similar discipline with at least five years of experience).
  • Experience in knowledge management, data analysis, reporting, post-distribution monitoring and assessment study  
  • Experience in developing MEAL plans and strategies & excellent understanding of concepts MEAL for development
  • Experience in developing and implementing an accountability framework with humanitarian and/or development agency 
  • Excellent written, verbal and oral communication and facilitation skills in Nepali and English a must. 
  • Demonstrable experience of publishing high quality reports and articles
  • Thorough understanding of gender and social inclusion issues in Nepal and commitment to promoting the empowerment of women and girls.
  • Ability to work in diverse team and environment with short deadlines and intense pressure.

Desirable: 

  • Experience in coordinating MEAL activities with multiple partners desirable
  • Knowledge / understanding of health, nutrition, resilience, food security and livelihood situation in Nepal and of community/social mobilization preferred
  • Experience working on project funded by ECHO (European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations)
