Street Child is an international charity based in the United Kingdom that aims to create avenues for out-of- school children to access education by through an integrated approach that strengthens the capacity of teachers, schools and communities to sustain their investment in the education for their children.

Following the devastating earthquakes in April and May 2015 that left more than 1 million children out of school and destroyed or damaged over 50,000 classrooms, Street Child UK expanded its operations into Nepal to assist local partners to re-establish education in some of the country’s worst affected communities. 

With the support of DFID, it is now implementing education and livelihood program targeting marginalized girls in Mahottari, Dhanusha, Siraha, Saptari and Sunsari districts in Nepal.Street Child of Nepal is therefore calling applications in following position for the implementation of its new program:

Job Description

Reports to: Programs Manager
Working Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00am to 5:00 pm 

Objective/Purpose of the Position:

The School Transition Manager will primarily be responsible for transitioning of out-of-school children into formal education (government or private schools) after their graduation from Accelerated Learning Programme (ALP). The LTM will be responsible for working together with the Implementing Partners in identifying, liaising and providing training to the school and staff members pertinent to ensure the enrolment of the beneficiaries of the ALP programme into the schools around the project communities.

Key Responsibilities:

The primary responsibilities of the incumbent will be to support the Street Child of Nepal Programs Team through:
Technical Support, Training Design and Delivery:

  • Facilitating and coaching partner NGOs on communicating and coordinating with schools on out-of-school children in their catchment areas and their enrolment after the ALP classes
  • Identifying and preparing schools for enrolment of girls after graduation from ALP through the provision of trainings, orientations and consultations to the schools
  • Designing of training programs for school teachers with the objective of retaining girls in schools
  • Designing of curriculum and materials promoting inclusiveness, child-friendliness and child-centred teaching in schools

Stakeholder Outreach:

  • Coordinating with the local governmental education bodies including but not limited to the DCC, EDCU, Local and Rural Municipality Governments counterparts and schools
  • Provide support to the beneficiaries with the necessary documentation and processes for enrolment of girls in schools
  • Work together with the Implementing Partners in identifying, liaising and providing training to the school and staff members pertinent to ensure the enrolment of the beneficiaries of the ALP programme into formal schooling
  • Working with the Street Child of Nepal Programs team to create follow-up mechanisms to gauge the retention and performance of girls in the schools after enrolment
  • Interacting with students, parents, management committees and community people to gauge the effectiveness of transition

Dissemination of information:

  • Reporting on preparation, transition and follow-up of school enrolment of ALP graduates
  • Submit findings and reports to direct line managers
  • Review of documentation and provides individuals with reasonable accommodations
  • Maintain and protect the confidentiality of individual records as required

  • Excellent written and oral communication in Nepali and English. Maithili would be an asset

Education and Experience:

  • M. Ed. with three years of working experience in education sector at mid-level management position, or Master’s degree in social studies or relevant discipline with five years of working experience in education sector at mid-level management position
  • Knowledge of the school education system in Nepal
  • Skill of teacher training and DRR will be an asset
  • Skill of teaching and learning material development will be an asset
  • Adequate computer skills such as Microsoft Office

Desirable:

  • Prior experience on Accelerated Learning Programmes and Formal Schooling
  • Training, facilitation, coaching, supervision experience
  • Knowledge of educational assessment and evaluation methodologies
  • Experience in staff management will be an added advantage
