Work to plan and ensure sample processes go smoothly for the team’s projects.
- Understand tech packs/sample information asking appropriate questions with Project Manager at the start of a project to ensure good understanding and common goals.
Create patterns & samples with production orders in mind, in such a way as to optimize:
- Material usage; Sewing time; Easy construction methods; Quality; and Meeting customer requirements
- Ensure that directions are followed and patterns and samples are made correctly the first time to minimize rework
- Ensure minimal production difficulties due to patterning/sample mistakes
Create patterns based on the information provided in each tech pack and any updates from the customer.
- Ensure patterns accurately represent the requirements of the customer.
- Ensure patterns, samples, sample materials, and necessary forms are clearly labelled, organized, filed, and updated for each revision.
- Grade patterns accurately according to the criteria set by the customer + create POMs
- Ensure that patterns are drafted in a timely manner according to the priority schedule.
Sew samples accurately and in a timely manner
- Gather supplies, set up machines as if for production sewing, and cut any necessary pieces for samples. Store all materials in an orderly manner. Record material in stock system accurately, record machine settings properly.
- Follow instructions in the Tech Pack and as communicated by Project Manager, check your own work.
- Take care to always sew samples with the highest quality standards, check your own work.
- Timing: Clearly and concisely note each sewing step, and time each sewing step in consistent manner
- Ensure that samples are sewn in a timely manner according to the priority schedule.
- Clearly label each sample revision to track changes, and fully understand changes that need to be made, before sewing the next revision.
- Provide feedback to the Project Manager on ways to improve on the quality or construction method of sewing the garment. No changes are to be carried out without the approval of the Project Manager.
Lead the Sample Team
- Supervise and support sample team members to enable them to do their best work, including: ensuring they understand their job role, helping them to stay on task and complete their work, approving and tracking leave, tracking any overtime that Purnaa requests, ensuring cooperation and good relationships within the team, training other members of the team so they continue to grow in skills related to their work, etc.
- Represent the Sample Team at meetings; facilitate good communication between the Sample Team and other Purnaa departments, maintain open communication with Project Managers to ensure mutual understanding
- Assist in establishing sampling systems to ensure timely, efficient, and accurate sample-making, and help to problem solve regarding work systems
- Foster a team culture of continuous improvement and excellence in work
Create weekly sampling schedule and assign individual work and targets:
- According to project priority
- Ensure timely completion of patterns/samples/etc., meeting deadlines
- Set reasonable targets based on Purnaa sales goals, global standards of sample/pattern skill, etc.
- Clearly communicate the schedule to Sample Team members, Project Managers and others as appropriate
- Rearrange schedule as needed when unexpected changes occur (in the project itself, staff sickness, etc.)
Ensure your team areas are kept clean and orderly, and tools are kept in good repair, and supplies are
well stocked.
Maintain Purnaa Sample Rooms; ensure the sample spaces are orderly and clean, items properly labeled, and samples kept in good condition. Process and label all samples/patterns/dies for your projects.
Assist Production teams/QC when required, including training
