ROLE PURPOSE:

We work together, with our partners from civil societies and government, to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. We reached approximately two million populations and invested over 29 million US dollars in 2012 to reach more children than ever before, through programmes in Health, Nutrition, Education, Protection and Child Rights and Governance, Livelihood, HIV and AIDS, and Humanitarian crises.

The primary responsibility of the Research Officer will be to support VBDRTC and EDCD in collection, analysis and presentation of the data received at VBDRTC and from the districts 

SCOPE OF ROLE: 

Reports to: Microbiologist – Malaria/Global Fund

Dimensions: Save the Children works in 57 districts of Nepal and nationally in Bhutan with a current staff complement of approximately 300 staff and current expenditure of approximately $US 30 million each year.

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Collect and analyse the information of the findings for the samples received for PCR at VBDRTC.
  • Improving the availability and use of relevant and timely routine health information systems data on malaria cases and commodities.
  • Use of multiple methods to track malaria burden and transmission over time, including malaria incidence, population malaria parasite prevalence (captured using RDTs, microscopy, and PCR)
  • Ensure quality and timely collection, management, cleaning, and analysis of quantitative data received at VBDRTC.
  • Perform data quality assurance procedures to ensure that data is complete, accurate and can be relied upon for decision making. 
  • Support in micro stratification Survey, G6PD screening survey, Malariometric survey in coordination with the PMU unit at EDCD.
  • Support the teams at VBDRTC in conduction of basic and refresher malaria microscopy training and preparation of training report.
  • Provide information on the status of achievement of performance indicators for purposes of preparing the Progress Updates and Annual Reports of VBDRTC

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics or Public Health or related Social Science
  • At least 3 years’ experience in Experience with collection, management, analysis, and of routine health system data.
  • Proficiency using data analysis packages (SPSS), including capabilities in mapping data and spatial data analysis. Proficient in MS Office applications, statistical packages and knowledge of statistical methods.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and independently
