Research Fellow

Kathmandu Forestry College (KAFCOL), which was established in 2005, is the first public company with a mandate of producing forestry graduates in Nepal. The college, which is affiliated with the Tribhuvan University and CTEVT, has been currently running four academic programs in three levels - Diploma in Forestry, BSc Forestry, MScs in Natural Resources Management and Rural Development, and Geographical Information Science and Systems (GIScience). Alongside regular teaching and research, the college has been implementing research and outreach projects related to biodiversity, forestry, and natural resources management.

Research Fellow 1 (Governance): expertise in social or political science 

Essential Qualifications:

  • PhD in social or political science, including environmental policy
  • Evidence of good English writing and speaking and translation skills
  • Experience in working with NGOs
  • Demonstrable understanding of multi-stakeholder governance
  • Competency in stakeholder engagement and consultation
  • Knowledge of natural resource management certification

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Evidence of peer-reviewed publications, preferably in Q1 journals
  • GIS skills

Research Fellow 1 (Natural Capital Valuation): expertise in GIS and data analytics

Essential Qualifications:

  • PhD in natural resource management, including natural capital valuation
  • Evidence of good English writing and speaking and translation skills
  • Experience in working with NGOs 
  • Demonstrable understanding of multi-stakeholder governance
  • Competency in natural capital valuation methodologies including payments for ecosystem services
  • GIS skills including data analytics

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Evidence of peer reviewed publications, preferably in Q1 journals 
  • Knowledge of natural resource management certification

Appointment : 

The fellowships are for three years. The initial appointment will be for one year and is renewable for another two years based on performance. The salary offered to successful candidates will be within the limits of the allocated project budget, which can range in between Nepali Rupees (NPR) 60,000 and 65,000 per month (depending upon the conversion rate of NPR with Australian Dollar). Income tax will be deducted as per the prevailing law of the Government.
