  • Master’s degree in water resources engineering, hydrology or related field
  • Good background and interest in hydrological and hydraulic modeling, and climate data analysis

  • Demonstrated skills and experience in GIS and Remote Sensing
  • Pleasant personality and team worker with good command of both English and Nepali languages

Job Description

As a part of the NDRI Water and Climate Program team, the incumbent will work under the general and specific guidance of the Executive Director and the Water Resources Program Coordinator. S/he will to be stationed at NDRI office located at Pulchowk, Lalitpur, Nepal, but may require to travel frequently to the study/project locations. Initial contract will be for one year, including two-month probation period, with the possibility of annual extension depending on candidate’s performance and availability of funds. 

The specific tasks and deliverables will be as follows:

  • Provide inputs to NDRI research projects and studies especially in the field of water resources management, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling, disaster risk management and climate change assessment
  • Support in identifying and preparing proposals for research projects in water resources engineering, climate change and related topics
  • Manage the database, Water and Climate Program web-page, computer programs and information systems (past studies, data etc.) related to water and climate
  • Co-develop new and improve current in-house water and climate software packages, such as the Stochastic Weather Generator, Statistical Downscaling and Bias Correction of Climate Data
  • Co-organize and serve as Resource Person in in-house and external training and capacity building programs
  • Co-ordinate with team members and local partners in organizing dissemination workshops, conferences, symposiums and other similar events
  • Prepare technical papers in peer-reviewed journals and conferences based on NDRI research activities, and prepare project reports and other knowledge products
  • Prepare agreed six-monthly personal workplan with measurable targets and outputs for bi-annual monitoring and evaluation
  • Perform any other assignments/tasks instructed by the Executive Director, Program Coordinator or other Senior Staff
