Job Description

Research Associate (Economist) is the position to contribute NDRI from the capacity of Economist. She/he would contribute primarily in a current project on tobacco being executed by NDRI in collaboration with Kivu International in support of Cancer Research UK and then to contribute other faculties of NDRI as economist. Initial contract will be for one year, including two-month probation period, with the possibility of annual extension depending on candidate’s performance and availability of funds. 

The specific tasks and deliverables will be as follows:

  • Engage in research work on tobacco taxes in the context of Nepal as well as review the international best practices in tobacco taxation policy and produce various outputs such as policy briefs and reports as required
  • Review the status of tobacco economics in Nepal, in the South Asian countries and globally
  • Contribute to study the behaviour of tobacco for the better understanding of tobacco economics and projection for the practical recommendation to control the tobacco issue through appropriate modeling  
  • Support the team of tobacco control program for the data/information analyses and prepare knowledge products: policy brief, report, and other IEC materials  
  • Review of the database on the state-of-the-art information on practices of database management, develop in a presentable format and prepare reports in various formats including graphs, charts, matrix, etc. as required
  • Play a leading role to establish a data base system of tobacco and of public health sector in NDRI
  • Synthesis of research data and interpret for betterment of scientific understanding, manuscript preparation and publish
  • Perform other tasks by fully considering NDRI Vision, Mission, Core Values, Objectives and Focal Areas instructed by the Executive Director and /or relevant Program Coordinators
  • To analyse the demand and supply mechanism of tobacco and its impact in Nepalese economy and the society
