Job Description

Position Overview:

Chirayu National Hospital & Medical Institute is seeking a qualified and dedicated Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) to join our team. The RSO will be responsible for managing our radiation protection program, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and maintaining a safe environment for personnel and patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Radiation Protection Program: Oversee the program, ensuring effectiveness and compliance with regulations.
  • Radiation Protection Issues: Identify and address any radiation protection problems promptly.
  • Corrective Actions: Initiate, verify, and implement corrective actions to enhance radiation safety.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Halt unsafe activities and ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, including 10 CFR Part 20 regulations and investigational levels.
  • ALARA Practices: Maintain radiation exposures as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA).
  • Radiation Protection Procedures: Develop, distribute, and implement up-to-date procedures.
  • Licensed Materials Compliance: Ensure possession, use, and storage of licensed materials adhere to regulations and manufacturer's guidelines.
  • Training and Authorization: Authorize and train individuals in handling radioactive materials and conduct relevant personnel training.
  • Monitoring and Documentation: Maintain thorough documentation to ensure radiation doses remain within allowable limits, and appropriately use and exchange personnel monitoring devices.
  • Material Security and Disposal: Secure licensed materials and ensure their proper disposal.
  • Incident Reporting: Notify authorities of any incidents, such as loss, theft, or damage of licensed materials, and investigate and report medical events as required.
  • Program Audits: Conduct and document annual audits of the radiation protection program and implement corrective actions for any identified violations or weaknesses.
  • Material Transportation: Transport licensed materials in accordance with DOT requirements.
  • Record Maintenance: Maintain accurate records and ensure the license is up-to-date.
  • On-Site Supervision: Provide periodic on-site supervision of the Radiation Safety Program.
  • Dose Records and Surveys: Review dose records and surveys quarterly.
  • New User Review: Review and approve new users and uses of radioactive materials before first use.
