Job Purpose : Overall, responsibilities are to deliver the public health promotion activities to meet basic public health needs of communities and support in the sustainability of the water supply schemes in the defined geographical areas.

Dimensions : 

  • Implement and monitor the hygiene promotion intervention in conjunction with the PHP Officer 
  • Support to establish mechanism and linking WUC to Gaunpalika registration MWASHCC, FEDWASAN for the sustainability of Water Supply Scheme.
  • Support team to manage health volunteers and WASH committees in a defined geographical area.
  • Support team to provide capacity-building support and accompaniment to the implementation of WASH committees and health volunteers on hygiene promotion, including training and provision of appropriate IEC materials. 
  • Work closely with PURNIMA TEAM

Key Responsibilities : 

  • Conduct assessments and baseline studies to identify WASH-related health risks and priorities.
  • Collect and record qualitative and quantitative data
  • Use assessment data to design participatory PHP interventions appropriate for the local context and culture.
  • Contribute in developing work plans and program activities
  •  Identify, train and mobilize WASH committees and community health volunteers and enable them to effectively undertake the hygiene promotion outreach and mobilization activities in the community/Institutions
  • Carry out hygiene promotion sessions/activities with volunteers and WASH committees to the wider community
  • Ensure WASH committees and volunteers are able to supervise, manage and monitor the WASH facilities and mobilize affected communities in taking action to improve high risk hygiene practices.
  •  Implement hygiene promotion interventions for specific target groups e.g. school children, women and men groups
  •  Carry out regular feedback to the volunteers, WASH committees and local authorities to ensure accountability and protection issues are taken action.
  • Facilitate ODF of the working communities and lead in the development of post ODF strategy for the Municipality/Rural Municipality/ Ward level.
  • Provide weekly update reports (including data collects, minutes from meetings, and key achievements for the week)  
  • To ensure that the programme take gender, protection issues fully into account. Ensure safe programming approach is undertaken at all stages of programme implementation. 
  • To perform any activities, assign by the line manager. 
  • Collection of case studies and success stories, outcomes due to implementation of Water Supply Schemes for proper documentation.
  • Provide regular and reliable narrative reports 
  • To participate in the consultation and coordination meeting in the local level stakeholder and the community. 
  • Identify and request appropriate health promotion materials and equipment’s required for the project. 
  • Coordination with PURNIMA team and other team members to ensure coherent and consistent programming. 
  • Facilitate communication and cohesive working between PHEs and PHPs
  • To conduct regular monitoring and supervision of WASH activities at field and provide technical inputs as required.
  • To participate in the learning sharing and review workshop and other stakeholder for further planning of activities.
  • Promotion of Hygiene by Conducting community sessions on six hygiene messages 
  • Development, printing and displaying IEC materials based on SBCC
  • Conduct CLTS triggering events at community, Ward and Gaupalika levels for ODF and Total Sanitation campaign
  • Conduct community sensitization event on NRA entitlement (especially for toilet Construction)
  • HH level monitoring on six hygiene messages
  • Training on MHM to adolescent boys and girls; school teachers and FCHVs

Skills and Competence :  

  • Intermediate in Health Science or related discipline with minimum two year working experience in the similar field. 
  • Most importantly, practical experience in developing countries in public health promotion sanitation and hygiene promotion. 
  • The post holder should have a good understanding of the public health needs of poor rural and urban communities including six key messages, CLTS and MHM and of appropriate ways of undertaking them. The post holder must be aware of and sensitive to the needs of women in this context.
  • Flexibility and ease in working with local people 
  • Diplomacy, tact and administrative skills in order to work with people at managerial level, and occasionally government levels.
  • Assessment, analytical and planning skills.
  • Capacity and desire to pass skills and information, confident communicator and willingness to work in collaboration with others and respectful to the community.
  • Takes responsibility for own work and delegated project/processes (including some leadership). 
  • Good written and spoken English is essential
