Right4Children (R4C) is a Pokhara-based NGO dedicated in improving the lives and living standards of disadvantaged children, youth and their families. Established in January 2013, R4C’s actions are oriented towards assisting such children and young people, through the programs and services that they feel RIGHT for them, in making their hopes and dreams come true.

R4C is implementing 4 years long Promoting Young Women in Employment in Tourism Sector in Pokhara (PYWEP) with funding support from Plan international Nepal. The project is being implemented in Pokhara and it aims to ensure employment opportunities for 680 female migrant youth in the urban area of Pokhara valley. The project will provide skill training support to 680 young women in different occupations like hospitality, tourism, early childhood education, Repair and maintenance, Retail/Sales, Receptionist cum cashier, Light vehicle driver and security guard. Along with the skill training these young women will also be supported with English language skills, life skills, business development skills and computer skills.

As the ongoing COVID pandemic has created a kind of fear among everyone and has also affected psychologically most of us. Considering this situation, the component of psycho-social support to the trainees has been provisioned in the project. Thus, PWYP is looking for qualified counselor to strengthen mental health of the training participants.

Job Description

Deliverables:

The consultant will be required to share the weekly plan and update. The plan will be submitted to Project Coordinator on Friday every week till the counselling continues. The consultant will ensure that all the activities are implemented according to the weekly plan and in line with the project objectives.

  • Conduct psychosocial need assessment of the girl trainees in different trainings.
  • Design/ develop detailed plan for psychosocial counselling.
  • Provide psychosocial counselling service to those who are assessed to require counselling through need assessment.
  • Prepare individual girls’ tracker and progress report of individual girl.
  • Prepare and submit final report on implemented activities, challenges faced, success and other relevant information from the activities.
  • Provide suggestions, as appropriate, to inform the project’s overall Protection component based on general trend and findings from psychosocial assessments and counselling with the project’s beneficiaries.

The expected output of this consultancy are as follows: –

  • Support the project beneficiaries, girls aged 18-24 currently training in different trades, to reach a state of wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic by realizing their individual potential and coping mechanisms and perform their social functioning at the optimum level through psychosocial counselling services and continue with their training and career.

Methodology

  • A need assessment will have to be carried out in groups of 10 to identify the need of psychosocial counselling services to the trainees.
  • The essential counselling services should be provided to the identified cases in person based on the need for support.

Development/Planning: Make a weekly plan by coordination to the project team for providing counseling service to the beneficiaries.

Assessment: Pre-assessment can be done by the counselor and protection officer in the need basis.

Implementation:

  • The person will be responsible for essential co-ordination, reporting and assuring the quality of psychosocial interventions with the project coordinator.
  • Plan and design for providing psychosocial counseling to the beneficiaries affected by COVID 19.
  • Provide psychosocial counseling to the identified trainees who need it in the basis of need assessment.
  • Prepare the report and maintain record of the activities and submitted to the organization in the weekly basis.

Educational Qualification (if individual):

  • At least Bachelor’s Degree in psychology or Bachelors degree in any discipline with six months psycho social counseling training is required.

Professional Experience (both individual and organization):

  • At least 5 years’ experience in the field of psychosocial counseling and Psychosocial First Aid are preferable
  • Known knowledge and practice in the field of Psychosocial Counseling, Stress and Anxiety Management, Practice and knowledge in Prevention Method of almost all psychosocial problem are other additional qualification.

Language Requirements:

  • Fluency in spoken and written English and Nepali language is desired.

Competencies:

  • Excellent counseling, facilitation and interpersonal and networking skills.
  • Need assessment, communication, problem solving, planning, presentation, reporting and analytical skills;
  • Ability to communicate and function effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to work effectively as an individual and in a team.
  • Positive thinking and neutral and analysis in the base of provided information skill
