KOSHISH Nepal seeks the project based position of Psychologist for “Working together for Suicide Prevention” project supported by CBM. The Psychologist will be responsible for i. leading the campaign, capacity building and advocacy on suicide prevention, ii. Provide technical support to local and provincial government in developing suicide prevention strategies, action plan, iii. deliver crisis/emergency support (psycho-social counseling, psychotherapy) person having suicidal ideation/ behavior and their family. iv. lead development of different awareness materials on suicide prevention in collaboration with project team. This project is being implemented in Pokhara Metropolitan city and Sundarbazar Municipality in Lamjung District.
Roles and Responsibilities:
The designated Psychologist under the project will have the following roles and responsibilities:
Training, campaigning and Advocacy
- Provide technical support/lead to design different suicide prevention campaign at project area
- Provide Technical Support to campaign and advocacy officers to initiate campaign and use of advocacy tools on suicide prevention and mental health promotion at local and provincial level.
- Lead to develop different IEC materials on suicide prevention, advocacy for the purpose of advocacy and mental health promotion.
- Lead designing and delivery of training and capacity building on suicide prevention, MHPSS, advocacy in collaboration with campaign and advocacy officers
- Develop a good working relationship and knowledge of community, local government and other stakeholders to identify strengths, capacities, needs, potentials.
- Provide technical support to provincial/local government health section for policy formulation on suicide prevention, MHPSS mainstreaming.
Project Management, Documentation, Monitoring & Evaluation:
- Ensure the quality implementation of the project intervention at field as well as providing technical support to the project team.
- Support project coordinator in carrying out project evaluations, baseline studies.
- Support Project Coordinator on developing periodic programmatic and financial reporting.
- Develop and document good practices, learning, evidence based practice, stories and disseminate in different platform.
- Maintain the database security and confidentially of people received crisis support or beneficiary
- Ensure technical quality and adequate documentation of the project
- Support project team on designing and producing communication materials for the project
- Regularly monitor work of Campaign and Advocacy Officers (CAOs) and provide guidance and support
- Ensure timely submission of plan and report to the supervisor in consultation with CAOs
Psychosocial Service Delivery:
- Provide suicide prevention crisis support through tele counseling and home visit
- Establish referral network for identification, management and treatment of the person with suicidal thought/behaviour
- Develop and contextualize verbal autopsy to identify social cause of suicide and conduct Psychosocial verbal autopsy among members of the families
- Coordination and Communication
- Coordination, and networking with different relevant organizations like-mental health and suicide crisis support service provides, government hospitals, suicide prevention networks, and psychiatrists.
- Coordinate, facilitate and communicate around suicide prevention measures among the at risk people, people with suicidality, mental health issues and their families.
- Work with and involve NFDN/ OPD for inclusive suicide prevention campaign and advocacy areas
Other Responsibilities:
- Supporting the admin department as and when required.
- Coordinate with all the team members and ensure good team spirit
- Other responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor
- Maintain the positive relationship with all the relevant stakeholders
Expected educational background and qualities:
- A minimum of Masters degree in clinical psychology from recognized institution
- Knowledge of Mental health, Psychosocial issues, Social Inclusion, Disability, Social Development, would be added benefits
- A minimum of 2 years experience in similar position or working in government/non-governmental organizations
- Ability to develop the plan and provide the psychosocial counselling to needy beneficiaries, ensure proper documentation of the intervention
