Under the overall guidance and supervision of the PBC, the PBE will be responsible for managing designs, design reviews, construction supervision, contracts management, quality control, ensuring social and environmental safeguards in the provinces. S/he will coach/supervise and manage a group of Technical Officers to undertake additional tasks related to bridge supervision and reporting as required in the formats prescribed by SDC. Following (but not limited to) are the main tasks for PBEs:

• Support PRBSU in overall bridge design and construction supervision works;
• Support PRBSU in preparing detailed working-drawings for construction using international standard AutoCAD (or other popular software), containing all details required for the execution of the bridge construction works;
• Support PRBSU in verification of collected information about hydrology e.g. catchment characteristics, rainfall, stream/channel characteristics, design discharge, linear waterway, scour depth etc. for all cross drainage works and bridges;
• Support PRBSU on investigations for naturally occurring materials and identify suitable quarries for these materials to the extent possible promote locally available construction materials;
• Support PRBSU in conducting geo-technical investigation and sub-surface exploration at all the proposed bridge locations in Joint Visit with the Consultants, Surveyors, when required
• Support PRBSU in preparing detailed cost estimates as well as to cross-Check Bill of Quantities and estimate prepared by consultants and Contractors;
• Support PRBSU on verifying Bridge Design, Drawing and Estimate Report submitted by the Consultants
• Support PRBSU to implement the Quality Assurance System in Bridge Building and support to manage contracts;
• Under PBC’s guidance, coach and mentor the TOs on construction supervising works like bridge layout, quality control, measurement and payments recommendations etc. as a when required.
• Under PBC’s guidance, coach and mentor the TOs in reporting on the progresses (physical, financial and social) of the bridges on outcomes and results as per the formats required by SDC.
• PBC’s guidance, coach and mentor the TOs in ensuring social inclusion aspects in the monitoring of the progresses of the bridges that would include contractor’s compliance on workers safety, insurance, equal pay for equal works, and redressed of grievances of affected communities by the bridge construction projects.
• Archive final design verification of bridges
• Archive design verification of provincial various bridges
• Update Bridge status and ensure archiving of as-built drawings of completed bridges
• Archive any instructions/ correspondence during supervision of bridges, if any

Key qualification requirements

• BE in civil engineering with minimum 3 years’ experience in various aspects of bridge engineering design and construction management.
