Established in 1982, Bird Conservation Nepal (BCN) is the leading organization in Nepal, focusing on the conservation of birds, their habitats and sites. It seeks to promote interest in birds amongst the general public, encourage research on birds and identify major threats to birds' continued survival. As a result, we are the foremost scientific authority providing accurate information on birds and their habitats throughout Nepal. We provide scientific data and expertise on birds for the Government of Nepal through the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Conservation (DNPWC) and work closely in birds and biodiversity conservation throughout the country.

BCN is a membership-based organization with a Founder President, patrons, life members, friends of BCN and several supporters. Our membership provides strength to the society and is drawn from people of all walks of life from students, professionals and conservationists. Our members act collectively to set the organization's strategic agenda.

We are committed to showing the value of birds and their special relationship with people. As such, we strongly advocate the need for peoples' participation as future stewards to attain long-term conservation goals.

As the Nepalese Partner of Birdlife International, a network of more than 110 organizations around the world, BCN also works on a worldwide agenda to conserve the world's birds and their habitats.

Duty Station: Koshi Tappu, Sunsari
Appointment Type:
 Full Time for two years and nine months on an annual contract basis.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The key role of the incumbent will be to assist in implementing the project “Sustainable management of wetlands and grasslands: enhancing biodiversity and livelihoods” in Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve (KTWR) and its buffer zone.

Required skills and Experience

Education

  • For Project Officer: Master’s degree in Forestry, Environment, Natural Resource Management or any other relevant subject.
  • For Project Assistant: Bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Forestry, Environment, Natural Resource Management, or any other relevant subject.

Experience

  • For Project Officer: Minimum three years of relevant working experience in project implementation in conservation/livelihood support projects.
  • For Project Assistant: Minimum two years of relevant working experience in project implementation in conservation/livelihood support projects.
  • Experience in networking and relationship building.
  • Knowledge and experience in project and networking management, design, monitoring and evaluation, and report writing.
  • Proven skills in community mobilization and training.
  • Strong communication skills.

Computer skills

  • MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and online platforms (i.e Zoom, skype, and other standard software).

Salary and Benefits: As per the organization's norm commensurate with the project agreement.
