Project Officer

Sahara Nepal is a non-political and non-profitable organization established in 2052 BS in Jhapa District of Nepal. Since then, Sahara Nepal is profoundly engaged in Public Health, humanitarian assistance, community development, decent housing & safe shelter, conservation of natural resources, and environmental protection mainly in the Hilly and Terai region of Nepal through the dozens of humanitarian and long-term development projects.

Sahara Nepal is implementing Biswas project with the partnership of FAIREMED Foundation Nepal in Jhapa and Morang district. BISWAS Project has launched “BISWAS- Building Trust and Confidence among NTD Affected and Vulnerable Population” in Koshi Province focusing on Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) Maternal and Neonatal Health (MNH) and Disability Inclusive Development (DID) as its key components. The project aims to strengthen local health system by working closely with municipalities, and promoting health-seeking behavior, educating, empowering, and mobilizing the communities and existing local groups using various participatory tools and techniques.

The proposed project will contribute to Nepal's efforts to eliminate and control the major endemic Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs) by increasing treatment and care of people affected by NTDs and disabilities. In addition, it will contribute to improve maternal and neonatal health (MNH) and disability prevention and rehabilitation of people affected by NTDs.

The intervention strategy of the project will be guided by Leave No One behind (LNOB) principle focusing on reaching the furthest behind first in Nepal. The targeted interventions will address the barriers of accessing basic health care services and capitalize on the opportunities for increasing access of the marginalized population to basic health care services while integrating disability-inclusive development (DID), humanitarian support during emergencies and gender equity and social inclusion (GESI) as cross-cutting themes.

  • Track record of generating innovative ideas and creativity.
  • Excellent language skills, verbal and written communication in Nepali, English and local dialects.
  • Experienced in staff supervision, team mobilization and teamwork, gender sensitive, skilled in team mobilization, coordination and networking.
  • Good knowledge of computer applications (Microsoft Office, SPSS etc.) with ability to produce reports in English and Nepali.

Job Description

Under the direct supervision of Project Coordinator the Project Officer will be responsible for overall management of project activities mainly planning and implementation of the planned activities with required supervision. S/he will ensure proper and effective use of project resources and assets and its management according to organization‘s policy and guidelines. He/she will collaborate with Health Office of the Project districts (Jhapa and Morang), Municipalities, and Health Facilities, FCHVs, Self Help Groups and HFOMC during the planning and implementation. He/she will also supervise the staff members/team, and coach and guide the field-based staff, e.g. Community Health Mobilisers. He/she will also be responsible for timely reporting and documentation of project activities. S/he will work under the management/supervision of Sahara Nepal and maintain close coordination with FAIRMED project team.

Sahara Nepal is seeking qualified, dynamic and motivated Nepali citizens on following positions for successful implementation of the project:

Key responsibilities:

  • Take lead in monthly planning, implementation and supervision of project activities at the field level. Staff supervision, and capacity building to ensure inclusive development (e.g. gender equality, disability inclusive, reaching to the unreached, etc) community. participation and mobilization of local resources.
  • Track budget expenditure through burnt rate analysis and periodic financial reports and ensure the utilization of budget as per the planned activities.
  • Plan and organize training, workshop, and review meeting sat the Municipalities, and districts, Province level as appropriate.
  • Supervision and follow up of the project activities as per the work plan, through field visit, coach and mentor field staffs to ensure their capacity to perform as per the quality standards,
  • Collaborate with local stakeholders to avoid duplication of work and build synergies as possible.
  • Prepare quarterly progress updates, and bi-annual progress reports and submit to the FAIRMED as per the agreed schedule.
  • Track project activities and ensure the quality of benchmarks have been met and followed during the implementation.
  • Coordination and advocacy with Municipality, district and Provincial Governments effective collaboration and partnership.
  • Documentation and dissemination of best practices, successful stories result from the project contribution.
  • Collect data on a regular basis and measure achievement against performance indicators.
  • Regular follow up to field staff and ensure Log alto update of field.
  • Collect health system data and information from field and ensure update.
  • Categorize data, analyze and produce information and disseminate according to requirement of stakeholders.
  • Compile data, prepare monthly project updates, and submit to FAIRMED Nepal: progress tracking, highlight key performance outputs, and identify problems with implementation for review before submitting it to FAIRMED Nepal.
  • Support FAIRMED in various studies and research related activities and surveys as planned under the project.

Duty station : Charpane, Jhapa (70-80% time in field)
