KOSHISH is a right-based organization working extensively in advocacy in and multi-disciplinary and holistic mental health and psychosocial support in Nepal. In addition, KOSHISH is also working in system strengthening and creating a model that the government and other stakeholders may able to replicate.

Project Background:

“Documentation for De-stigmatization of Mental Health”

Media can be an important tool for advocacy and awareness as has been highlighted in various other issues. KOSHISH is taking this approach forward and with this project aims to dig out the issues relating to mental health in the communities and highlight them through mass media. Ground reality of existing stigma, understanding and perception about mental health in the communities will be brought to light and the duty bearers will be encouraged to fulfill their duties towards provision of mental health services and protect rights of persons with mental health issues.

KOSHISH is seeking for a suitable candidate for the position of Project Manager for Media Advocacy.

Desired Specification:

  • Proven experience of developing and implementing advocacy and communication plans highlighting ground realities of social issues through mass media
  • Proven experience of developing stories and programs in mass media
  • Have a proven experience of project management in the field of social development and advocacy with high level stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation & public relation skills in both English and Nepali and including writing for expert and general audiences and public speaking.
  • Ability to use initiative, prioritize, multi-task, and work well under pressure to meet deadlines
  • Creative and out of the box thinker, with a demonstrated track record of analytic problem‐solving/seeking solutions to challenges.
  • Ability and open to traveling long distances 
  • Clear and systematic thinking that demonstrates good judgment and problem-solving competencies.
  • Empathetic, Energetic with receptive learning attitude.

Job Description

  • Lead project team at implementation level and ensure planning, budgeting and coordination with relevant stakeholders
  • Develop and roll out plans and strategies for media advocacy to address issues relating to mental health and psychosocial disability
  • Dig out issues of mental health in the grass root in the communities and the government system
  • In collaboration with the team identify communities where case stories can be collected and develop scripts and framework to collect them
  • Coordinate with local governments to facilitate collection of stories highlighting issues of mental health and psychosocial disability in the communities
  • Coordinate with the media team to develop programs that will be broadcast in mass media
  • Support to facilitate media dialogues on issues of mental health and psychosocial disability
  • Provide technical support to team in KOSHISH in media advocacy and communication related matter
  • Follow up with government authorities and other concerned stakeholders
  • Field visit in the existing target areas of the KOSHISH
  • Provide capacity building trainings on media advocacy to KOSHISH staffs
  • Work on de-stigmatization and sensitization through media mobilization
  • Preparation of annual, semi-annual, periodic and event reports

Education Level: Master`s Degree or equivalent in human rights, journalism, mass communication, disability, social work or any other related field

Experience Required: A minimum 6 years of experience in media advocacy.

Job Location: Based in Kathmandu with frequent field visits to target locations

Salary: Negotiable as per competence and experience
