The Project Coordinator will lead efforts to scale up successful and proven dairy technologies and practices across the dairy value chain nationwide. S/he will collaborate with the Heifer Project Nepal, CDCAN, DMPCUs, the Dairy Development Boards, and provincial and local governments to enhance efficiency in quality milk production, processing, and marketing using scientific and evidence-based approaches across the entire dairy value chain. The coordinator will lead efficient implementation of project activities, compliance with standards, timely monitoring and reporting, and delivery of projects within scope, time, and budget while maintaining accountability throughout the project lifecycle.
Responsibilities And Deliverables:
Collaboration and Coordination
- Work closely with DMPCUs and Heifer Nepal to ensure effective project implementation.
- Establish strong coordination with NDDB, actively participate in multi-stakeholder meetings, recommend key strategies to address dairy sector issues, and support decision implementation in collaboration with DMPCUs and other stakeholders.
- Engage with dairy stakeholders at all levels to address national milk market challenges and play a key role in managing and implementing solutions.
- Collaborate with the federal, provincial & local government, key institutions, and the private sector to leverage resources and technical assistance for strengthening the dairy sector.
- Ensure productive monthly and quarterly project progress meetings, review achievements, and develop actionable plans.
- Keep a good relationship with multi-stakeholders, DMPCUs, MPCs, NDDB, HPN and different donor organizations.
- Serve as the bridge between the cooperative's members, board of directors, and external stakeholders, ensuring the CDCAN meets its goals and maintains its foundational principles.
Program Management and Oversight
- Provide strategic leadership and effective management of approved projects, schedules,and budgets.
- Prepare detailed annual project implementation plans and budgets in coordination with CDCAN and Heifer.
- Organize major events such as capacity building events, resource placements, and ceremonies as outlined in project documents.
- Ensure timely and quality delivery of project activities within the defined scope.
- Establish a system to ensure milk collection and processing centers implement GMP practices.
- Ensure accountability and compliance with CDCAN and donor requirements.
- Provide support in establishing a quality-based milk pricing system at MPCs in collaboration with local governments and related stakeholders.
- Assist in establishing a national dairy database system in coordination with NDDB, DMPCUs, and affiliated MPCs.
- Ensure the hiring and timely mobilization of experienced mechanics for dairy equipment maintenance at milk collection centers affiliated with DMPCUs and support the development of collection centers’ staff capacity and skills for equipment maintenance.
Capacity Building
- Develop the capacity of potential resource persons/trainers to deliver training to lead farmers affiliated with MPCs.
- Conduct needs assessments for capacity building of practicing veterinarians and technicians.
- Support in capacity building of veterinarians and veterinary technicians affiliated with DMPCUs and MPCs.
- Conduct periodic visits to MPCs affiliated with DMPCUs and those directly affiliated with CDCAN, provide backstopping and support.
- Support DMPCUs & MPCs in preparing & implementing policies, business plan, and strategic plan and so on for maintaining good governance in MPCs, DMPCUs as well as in CDCAN too.
- Identify passive DMPCUs & MPCs and support to activate them in coordination of NDDB, HPN, CDCAN and other related stakeholders.
- Develop and execute dairy marketing strategies to promote the dairy cooperative’s services.
- Attend and participate in board meetings, providing updates and strategic advice.
Reporting and Compliance
- Prepare and submit periodic progress reports in alignment with the project document following HPN’s prescribed formats.
- Present project progress during regular monthly review meetings to ensure timely and quality project implementation, transparency and informed decision-making.
- Share project updatesin meetings with key stakeholders, including HPN, CDCAN, and NDDB.
- Lead the documentation and development of knowledge materials, ensuring effective knowledge sharing and learning for the project.
