BBC Media Action is the BBC’s international development charity. Working with media and communication to help reduce poverty and support people in claiming their rights, our aim is to inform, connect and empower people around the world. BBC Media Action reaches some 200 million people through local broadcast partners, BBC channels (especially the BBC World Service), online, mobile and print platforms and through interpersonal communication. We are currently delivering projects in 24 countries, including in Nepal. BBC Media Action has been working on communication for development projects in Nepal since 2007, giving us a well-developed understanding of Nepali audiences and significant experience of producing and evaluating media content on a range of issues to diverse target audiences.

Duration: 6 months with possibility of extension subject to funding  

Background

BBC Media Action uses media and communications to help reduce poverty and support people in claiming their rights, our aim is to inform, connect and empower people around the world. We do this through our focus on health, governance and rights, resilience, and humanitarian response, partnering with civil society, local media and governments to produce creative programmes in multi-media formats which inform and engage audiences and strengthen the media sector through building professional capacity and infrastructure.  

BBC Media Action Nepal is seeking potential applicants for the position of “Project Associate”.

Purpose of the job

Project Associate will be responsible for strategizing, implementation, partnership development and management, monitoring, evaluation, learning, knowledge management and direct day to day project management. These activities include systematically tracking and monitoring project activities, co-ordinating project training workshops, maintaining and organising project documentation and helping compile project progress reports. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Assist with project co-ordination, including work planning, financial management, ensuring health and safety of project staff, and liaising with project donors and partners as required.
  • Provide logistical and co-ordination support to projects.
  • Responsible for delivering value for money in the role through effective and efficient management of time and resources.
  • Maintain strong and collaborative relationships with project team, partners and stakeholders.
  • Ensure effective systems are in place to organise and track all communications with partners and stakeholders.
  • Produce regular project reporting and contribute to internal project review sessions.
  • Contribute to the effective monitoring, tracking, and reporting of project output.
  • Track project activities against the timelines and regularly update project calendar and milestones.
  • Support project events and ensure they meet the highest BBC standards and delivers to the project objectives and donor contractual requirements.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy working environment at all times, escalating any issues or areas of concern. 

Essential skills and experience

  • Minimum University degree in relevant field with previous experience of working as a Project Associate or in a project related role.
  • A proven track record in monitoring and tracking project activities.
  • Excellent writing and presentational skills and experience in project reporting. 
  • Experience in identifying and designing training interventions and an understanding of different learning styles.
  • Demonstrable experience in stakeholder management and building strong and effective partnership systems. 
  • Fluent in written and spoken English.
