Architectures Sans Frontieres Nepal (ASF Nepal) is a non – profit NGO established in 2015 by a group of professionals in the fields of architecture, engineering and the built environment, aiming to contribute to the sustainable development of disadvantaged communities in Nepal by sharing technical and scientific expertise, thereby helping communities improve the quality of their lives.

ASF Nepal is a legally registered at the CDO Office and the Social Welfare Council as a non-governmental organization. It is a member of Architecture Sans Frontieres International Network registered in 2009 in France under statutes of according to French law as an International NGO representing various national NGOs following common Hasselt Charter with the interest in social and environmental issues in relation to the built environment and dissatisfaction with ethical standards of mainstream architecture.

Job Description

Position Summary:

The architect shall be responsible for design, renovation, and supervision of buildings - new/old, modern/traditional; landscape design, etc. S/He will have to prepare drawings, by using CAD including requisite technical details appropriate to the project. S/He will have to interpret design concepts by preparing drawings and plans which will be used for building approvals, pricing estimates, and construction. S/He would have to liaise with government officials for building approval process, with contractors and workers for construction and with the client for drawing interpretation.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, construction and cost estimate skills, especially with appropriate materials and building systems (mud, bamboo, stone, wood, etc.)
  • Obtain and assemble data to complete architectural designs, visiting job sites to compile measurements as necessary.
  • Draw rough and detailed scale plans for foundations, buildings and structures, based on preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets and other data.
  • Ensure builder compliance with design specifications and advising on design corrections.
  • Supervise and provide technical advice before and during construction projects (various districts)
  • Help with identifying and documenting appropriate and innovative construction technologies for reconstruction in order to build a database
  • Understand planning and policies which will affect the reconstruction process
