Job Description

Mountain Spirit (MS) is hiring a Program Manager to lead and oversee program development, implementation and fund raising functions of MS. The successful candidate should be able to work independently (with minimum supervision), maintain a close relationship with the MS governing board, oversee the day to day management of projects implemented by MS, develop proposals and raise funds, supervise MS staffs, represent MS in various forums, and work closely with Nepal Project Lead of DI funded snow leopard conservation project.

Duration of Appointment: 1 year with the possibility of extension subject to performance and availability of fund
Probationary Period: 6 months of service
Language Required: English and Nepali

Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Lead and develop MS into an effective and sustainable institution committed to mountain development and conservation
  • Identify possible partnerships and funding opportunities (locally, nationally, internationally and with corporate, I/NGO, bilateral, multilateral, research institutions and philanthropic individuals/ organisation)
  • Develop quality proposals with an aim to raise at least NRs 3 million (thirty lakhs) in funding in the first year
  • Supervise projects under the MS 
  • Produce technical and financial reports on time to donors as agreed to
  • Maintain regular communication with the MS board
  • Supervise MS staff based in Kathmandu as well as in field
  • Ensure MS meet SWC requirements for project operation as well as other government's obligation
  • Represent MS interests at forums 
  • Develop outreach network with potential donors and partners, drawing on member contacts and expertise
  • Develop projects and programs and explore funding opportunities
  • Develop and Expand MS’s network capacity, membership, and enhance MS’s credibility and standing as an organization committed to mountain issues, community participation and causes
  • Maintain operational procedures that maintain and/or enhance professionalism, transparency and gender equity within MS core staff and its members
  • Carry out tasks and duties as assigned by the MS Board Work closely with Nepal Team Lead on Darwin Initiative and Snow Leopard Conservancy supported snow leopard conservation related matters

Qualifications and Experience

  • At least 5 years work experience with a conservation and/or development organizationat a mid-level management position
  • Post-graduate in any of the following discipline – parks/recreation/tourism studies, environmental science, social science, development studies
  • Demonstrated experience of managing project activities and report writing
  • Excellent computer literacy of MS Office for financial management, maintaining monitoring database and report-writing
  • Excellent analytical and writing skills
  • Proven experience at fund raising and proposal writing- will be an important asset
  • Independent, flexible, highly motivated and able to deliver high quality work with limited supervision

Remuneration

  • A competitive package from Rs. 40,000.00 to 50,000 per month, depending on the successful candidate’s experience and qualification

Reporting

  • The Program Manager will report to the MS chair. For DI related matters, the Program Manager will report to DI Nepal Lead
