Department: Pre-Primary / LKG & UKG
Reports To: Lead Class Teacher (LKG/UKG) & Primary Incharge

Position Summary

The Pre-Primary Assistant Teacher is a vital support role responsible for assisting the Lead Teacher in creating a safe, nurturing, and stimulating learning environment for young children (ages 3.5-6 years). This role focuses on providing individualized attention, supporting daily routines, preparing materials, and reinforcing lessons under the guidance and planning of the Lead Teacher. The Assistant Teacher plays a key role in ensuring the smooth operation of the classroom and the holistic well-being of each child.

Key Responsibilities

Instructional & Classroom Support

Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing daily lesson plans and activities (circle time, art, storytelling, etc.) by working with small groups or individual students.
Prepare and organize teaching materials, learning aids, and activity stations before and after class.
Reinforce lessons and concepts introduced by the Lead Teacher through repetition, guided practice, and playful engagement.
Support the development of fine and gross motor skills through supervised play and activities.
Read stories, assist with songs, and help manage learning centers.

Student Care & Supervision

Provide constant, attentive supervision to ensure the safety and security of all children at all times—in the classroom, on the playground, and during transitions.
Attend to the basic care needs of children with sensitivity and patience, including:

Toileting and personal hygiene assistance.
Meal and snack times (encouraging self-feeding, monitoring allergies).
Rest time/nap time supervision.
First aid for minor incidents.

Help children develop self-help skills (putting on shoes, packing bags, washing hands).
Support positive behavior management strategies as outlined by the Lead Teacher.

Classroom Operations & Environment

Help maintain a clean, organized, and inviting classroom environment.
Set up and cleanup activities, including art supplies, manipulatives, and play areas.
Assist in creating simple displays of children's work and educational charts.
Manage inventory of classroom supplies and inform the Lead Teacher of needs.
Assist with daily record-keeping, such as attendance and simple observation notes as directed.

Communication & Team Collaboration

Maintain a warm, professional, and supportive relationship with children, parents, and colleagues.
Communicate daily observations about children's well-being, social interactions, or needs to the Lead Teacher.
Serve as a supportive link between parents and the Lead Teacher during drop-off/pick-up times.
Participate in staff meetings and training sessions as required.
Work cooperatively as part of a teaching team, following directives and showing initiative within the scope of the role.

Job Specification

Required qualifications for this job

Required Education Level:Higher Secondary (+2/A Levels/IB)

Required Experience:More than 1 year

Other Specification

Essential: Minimum of a High School Diploma (Class 12). A Diploma/Certificate in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE), Nursery Teacher Training (NTT), or Montessori Assistant Training is highly preferred.
Preferred: Pursuing or holding a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
Experience: Prior experience working with young children (ages 3-6) in a school, daycare, or camp setting is a strong advantage. Fresh candidates with a genuine passion for early childhood are also encouraged.
Proficiency in clear, legible handwriting in both print and cursive styles
Ability to demonstrate proper letter formation and pencil grip techniques
Experience teaching pre-writing and early handwriting skills to children aged 3-5 years

Physically active role requiring constant movement, bending, kneeling, and sitting on the floor.
May involve exposure to childhood illnesses and require handling of bodily fluids (with proper hygiene protocols).
Hours typically align with school hours, but may require early arrival for setup or staying late for cleanup/meetings.
