Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH invites applications from suitable candidates to work with Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Programme (REEEP)- Green Recovery and Empowerment with Energy in Nepal GREEN. REEEP-GREEN is a technical cooperation project agreed between the Government of Nepal (GoN) and the Federal Republic of Germany. With support of GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and co-financed by the European Union, REEEP-GREEN is executed by the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation and sets out to improve the preconditions for planning and implementation of measures for the promotion of renewable energies and the efficient use of energy in Nepal. The main objective of REEEP-GREEN is to create the regulatory, institutional, and private-sector conditions for disseminating renewable energy and improving energy efficiency in Nepal. REEEP-GREEN uses a multi-level approach consisting of five output areas: Output 1: Policy- Institutional and Regulatory Framework for Renewable Energy (RE) and Energy Efficiency (EE) at National Level; Output 2: Institutional Frameworks for RE and EE at Subnational Levels; Output 3: Sustainable Market Development for RE; Output 4: Dissemination of Results in the field of RE and EE; and Output 5: Energy Efficiency in Industries and Enterprises.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Possesses a university degree in political science or adequate training and relevant work experience for the position

General Functions 

Under the direct supervision of the Political and Country Analyst, the incumbent will assist with the following tasks:

  • Assist in undertaking political analysis of the electoral process and gain broad understanding of the political context in which the elections are being held (political history, socio-cultural issues, political parties, previous election results)
  • Assist in organizing meeting with political parties, candidates and political analysts
  • Assist in maintaining close relations with domestic observer groups and other non- governmental organizations related to the election process
  • Assist in providing assessment and background knowledge and material on a wide range of interlocutors including candidates, political parties, state authorities, military, media groups, journalists, and decision makers in the political spheres
  • Assist in producing regular reporting on political developments for core team and observers and provide oral briefing as required
  • Participate in the analysis of information sent by the fielded observers and produce consolidated reports on the election campaign and polling
  • Assist in developing a cultural awareness in the mission and briefing material for mission staff taking into consideration; religious, customs and practices in relation to the electoral process. In conjunction with the operations and security experts, brief mission members about culturally sensitive issues and the appropriate behavior to be adopted by observers in the course of their activities
  • Participate as required in observer briefings, debriefings and team meetings
  • Assist in contributing to the preparation of weekly reports the preliminary statement and the final report
  • Perform any other duty required

NOTE:

  • All positions are open to men and women with no discrimination
  • For all positions, a good linguistic competence (spoken and written) in both English and Nepali is mandatory
  • All candidates must have sufficient computer skills to operate with electronic mail, word processing, public presentation and spreadsheet software
  • Flexibility required. Work is expected on occasions both in the evenings and weekends or even public holidays
  • Place of work is Kathmandu
