The Leprosy Mission (TLM) is a UK based international non-government organization active in 34 countries; started its work in Nepal from 1957 with establishment of Anandaban Hospital in Lele, the sourthern part of Lalitpur. However, from 2005 TLM Nepal has been working as independent NGO in partnership with TLM international and the Government of Nepal to provide specialist tertiary care and technical support for leprosy control programs. It also undertakes internationally recognized research into leprosy and implements disability inclusive community development programs through its own activities and strategic partnership.

Being one of the largest NGOs in the country working in the field of leprosy, TLM Nepal mainly focuses in working with and for people affected by leprosy. Its development interventions focuses in the areas of health, capacity building, education, sustainable livelihoods, community development, advocacy and research working towards equity and inclusion of people affected by leprosy and disability in the development process.

Job Description

The Physiotherapy Technician will assist in the delivery of physical rehabilitation and therapeutic interventions to patients, including individuals with leprosy as well as general patients. The role involves conducting assessments, administering treatments, assisting with exercises, and ensuring patients receive optimal care as part of the physiotherapy team. This position is critical in supporting the physiotherapy staff in restoring and improving the physical function and mobility of patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing physiotherapy treatments (exercises, massage, electrotherapy) as prescribed by physiotherapists.
  • Monitor and report patient responses to treatments, including any adverse reactions or lack of progress.
  • Assist patients with mobility exercises, range-of-motion activities, and gait training.
  • Help with patient assessments, including collecting medical history and conducting basic physical assessments.
  • Maintain accurate patient records, treatment logs, and progress notes.
  • Educate patients and families on exercise techniques, postural care, and self-management strategies.
  • Assist in managing patients with leprosy, focusing on preventing deformities and promoting mobility.
  • Ensure physiotherapy equipment is cleaned, maintained, and in good working condition.
  • Set up and assist in therapeutic modalities (e.g., heat, cold therapy, ultrasound, TENS) under supervision.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, social workers) to provide comprehensive patient care.
  • Respond to emergency situations within the physiotherapy department, providing first aid or support as necessary.
