Helambu Education and Livelihood Partnership (HELP) is a local NGO set up in 2009 supported by Mondo Foundation and various other international charities, intending to improve the quality of education in some of the remote village schools in Sindhupalchowk, some 70km northeast of Kathmandu. As a small, grassroots charity, we run five core programmes: Saathi Teachers Programme, International Volunteer Programme, Scholarship Programme, School Reconstruction Programme and School Resources Programme, designed and aimed to strengthen the quality of education.

HELP- Helambu Education and Livelihood Partnership, a local NGO, is currently running two major programmes namely Saathi Teachers Programme and Scholarship and Leadership Programme. We are looking for a suitable candidate to further develop and support the growth of these programmes with strong communication support.

The Saathi Teachers' Programme aims to improve student's learning achievement in basic- level schools (grades 1-5) in direct partnership with local government bodies. It’s a paired and paid teaching placement for qualified and passionate young people to teach Maths or English in schools located in rural communities struggling with a shortage of teachers in rural communities. As of 2023, Saathi Teachers Programme operates in three municipalities in Sindhupalchowk and Tanahu districts. 30 Saathi teachers are working across 25 schools in three municipalities in these districts.

The scholarship programmes aims to support students from our partner schools who have successfully completed their 10th grade to attend higher education through a scholarship scheme and engage them in various leadership and career development paths. School in a Bag Programme aims to support children with basic resources. Livelihood Support Programme aims to support families whose life condition can be better with small intervention and support of fincial resources. Volunteers Programme aims to connect like-minded individuals who can support the Saathi Teachers Programme and be a contact point for future collaboration and fundraising initiatives.

Role Summary:

  • The position will support all programmes at HELP, particularly Saathi Teachers Programme in producing high quality contents, stories and write up for presentations, newsletters, report, proposals and publications.
  • The role will support the planning and implementation of HELP’s other programmes such as Scholarship and School in a Bag Programme and producing contents, stories and reports for presentation and publications.
  • The role will support HELP and its international partners particularly GoGlobal Vermont in developing a strong partnership with local schools in fostering and developing educational programmes.
  • The role will support the Saathi Teachers Programme and Scholarship Programme in organizing meetings, workshop and gathering.
  • The role will support in developing strong partnership with government agencies.

Key responsibilities under Saathi:

  • Strategic planning for recruitment, selection and matriculation with placement, Saathi school, quarterly and Mid-year training.
  • Prepare Trimester reports, Newsletter and annual reports, including Saathi teachers’ involvement in the past three months, achievement and impact.
  • Coordinate with the recruitment team and participate in the final selection of Saathi Teachers and other staff of the Saathi Teachers Programme.
  • Maintain a good relationship with the Department of Education of local government, headteachers and ward chief.
  • Constant communication with the Teachers Development Coordinator regarding the Saathi teachers and updates to the ED.
  • Prepare Baseline and Impact survey questions and final reports to share with the donor and the stakeholders.
  • Work on planning social media outreach and content writing.
  • Write scripts for videos or photo animation videos for impact study and fundraising.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Maintain communication with our partner organisations.
  • Support or take the lead on writing grants and reports.
  • Develop comprehensive progress reports on all active programs to be submitted to HELP and our partner organisations.
  • Support on general admin work such as designs and media.
  • Provide support to produce documents for governmental-level requirements such as the Social
  • Welfare Council and the Office of the Local Governments.
  • Work with the Executive Director and the rest of the team in designing, inventing and innovating
  • the programme and the programmes associated with the Saathi Programme.
  • Organising and participating actively in events organised internally at HELP or supported by HELP.
  • Organise and participate in both internal and external events.
  • Develop an outreach programme of the Saathi Teachers Programme.

  • Ability to creatively solve problems, mediate conflicts, negotiate and communicate assertively in Nepali and English,

  • Ability to lead a team towards meeting the larger mission of HELP to inspire, create a culture of success, and build a relationship of mutual trust.

Minimum Requirements :

  • A Master’s degree in relevant field.
  • Two to three years of direct experience working in public/community schools or educational institute or Non-profit organization.
  • Strong computer competency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva and Mailchimp.
  • Strong command in written and spoken Nepali and English Language.
  • Strong team player.
  • Open minded attitude.

Note :

  • Location: Gokarneswhor-08, Kathmandu with some travel to the field.
  • Work hours: 40 hours a week (Mon thru Fri)
  • Salary and Benefits: Rs. 650,000 to Rs. 720,000 on an annual basis (gross salary) depending on qualification and experience plus benefits/bonus.
