The Human Rights and Justice Centre (HRJC) is a not-for-profit organization improving access to justice for victims of human rights violations in Nepal such as torture, enforced disappearances, extrajudicial executions and sexual violence. The HRJC provides legal assistance to victims regardless of their background, religious or political affiliation, litigates cases, develops local capacity and pushes the human rights agenda forward.

SCOPE OF THE POSITION  

The HRJC is seeking a suitably qualified candidate to fill the position of Partnership and Fund  Raising Officer.  

It is a Fixed-term employment contract till August 2022 with the possibility of extension  depending upon performance of the candidate and the availability of budget.  

The primary responsibility of the Partnership and Fund Raising Officer is to build meaningful  partnerships, develop new project proposals and fundraising materials for HRJC and to secure  new funding in order to attain the organization’s sustainability for the long run. 

The placement of the Partnership and Fund Raising Officer is expected to take place on 1  March 2022.  

EDUCATION  

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Development Studies, Business Administration, Mass Communication,  or any other related discipline from a recognized institution.  
  • A postgraduate qualification in an area related to Project Management or Fundraising would be  a valuable asset.  
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in raising funds for NGOs is acceptable instead of the  qualification. 

EXPERIENCE  

Required

  • At least three years of significant fundraising experience within the charity sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing funding proposals and obtaining grants from national  and international donors. 
  • Experience developing log-frames and activity-based budgets. 
  • Experience producing resources and materials to support fundraising. 

Desirable 

  • Experience in raising funds for the NGOs would be an asset. 
  • Experience creating (digital) fundraising campaigns, as well as measuring, interpreting  and evaluating campaign results. 
  • Fundraising experience in the Human Rights sector is a strong asset. 


REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETANCIES  

  • Sound knowledge of fundraising practices, approaches and environment. ∙
  • Demonstrated ability in securing grants and gifts from institutional donors, individuals,  corporations, foundations, and other private funding sources. 
  • Sound knowledge of major donors’ funding guidelines and requirements. ∙
  • Ability to conduct research, gather data, analyze information, and prepare effective,  accurate, and timely reports and other documents to support development objectives. ∙
  • Strong computer and IT skills, with good command of Excel, PowerPoint and  collaborative tools. 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in both English & Nepali. 
  • Demonstrated ability to write in a manner that is clear, accessible and engaging.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with leadership,  prospects, donors, civil society and the academic world. 
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and plan ahead. 
  • Genuine interest in development and empathy with HRJC’s work. 

Description of tasks and responsibilities 

Fundraising  

  • Develop a long-term fundraising strategy for the organization and an annual work plan in close  consultation with and under the guidance of the Board of Directors of the HRJC and the HR Coordinator. 
  • Create and maintain a database of international and local donors (institutional donors, foundations, bilateral and multilateral agencies and private corporations offering donations).
  • Regularly monitor donor websites and identify and inform in a timely manner about funding opportunities matching the work of the organization, keeping the organization up-to-date on changing  donor priorities. 
  • Carry out the necessary research to ensure that applications to institutional and private donors,  companies and/or individuals are of the highest quality and detailed in the most tailored way to maximize chances of success.  
  • Meet or approach trusts, government agencies and other bodies that could potentially make grants to  the organization and keep track of all contacts made. 
  • Write concept notes, project ideas and project proposals and ensure their timely submission in  coordination with the HR Coordinator and the Finance and Administration Officer (FAO).
  • Undertake independent research in finding alternative resources for long-term sustainability of the  organization, including business plans to generate income from various sources. 
  • Build, promote and support long term partnerships with local donors 
  • Collaborate with other organizations and groups within the community to build partnerships and enhance  fundraising activities. 

Grant/project management and reporting 

  • Coordinate with FAO and the HR Coordinator for the development of budgets for new proposals,  respecting the specific requirements of each donor. 
  • Manage the grant application process, track applications and follow-up and ensure that narrative and  financial reports to the donors meet requirements and contracts, and that they are of a high standard  and submitted on time.
  • Improve the effectiveness of the organization-wide oversight, monitoring & evaluation and reporting,  supporting the HR Coordinator in the preparation and submission of monthly, quarterly and annual  reports and plans to HRJC ‘s Board, donors and to authorities, as required. 
  • Participate in internal team meetings as called by the HR Coordinator and/or the Board of the HRJC. 
  • Share her/his weekly work-plan with the rest of the team and report monthly to HRJC management on  the activities realized, achievements and activities planned for the following month.  

External relations and communication 

  • In close coordination with the HR Coordinator, develop and oversee the realization of HRJC external  communication and outreach strategy. 
  • Develop a range of communication and fundraising materials for the organization such as case studies,  brochures, content for website and social media, HRJC annual report. 
  • Assist HRJC Management to develop and nurture relations with prospects, potential project partners,  national authorities, experts and journalists including through telephone contact, meetings, site-visits,  and enlistment and cultivation events. 
  • Develop and deepen existing and potential donors ‘relationships, responding to their requests and  ensuring that they are regularly updated on the work and achievements of the organization.
  • Attend networking events with relevant stakeholders and organize or provide assistance in organizing any  fundraising events for the organization, if required. 
  • Make presentations to potential donors, supporters or partners, as required
