Red Panda Network Nepal (RPN Nepal), a non-governmental organization envisions a secure, viable, and thriving population of wild red pandas through its integrative and multitier program. It is committed to working for the welfare of biodiversity conservation in Nepal by promoting, advocating, building awareness, and capacity-building.

The Himalayan Habre Center (HHC) is a sustainable hub for educational and skill-building workshops where people can learn about sustainable building principles and energy use, organic farming, and red panda conservation.

Outdoor Coordinator

Position: Outdoor Coordinator
Number of staff needed: 1 (One)
Duty Station: The Himalayan Habre Center, Deurali, Taplejung, with field visits as and when required.
Time Duration: 1 year from the date of recruitment (with possible extension)
Remuneration: As per the rule of organization
Other facilities: Housing and fooding provided on-site

Minimum Requirements:

  • Completed minimum bachelor’s degree in Education/Environment/Zoology/Forestry/Botany/Agriculture or equivalent with prior work experience in a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in outdoor education.
  • Good verbal and written communication in both Nepali and English.
  • Good IT skills - handling MS-Office packages (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint), searching for information on the Internet, and managing social media accounts.
  • Good skills and knowledge of filing, record keeping, account keeping, reporting and basic documentation.
  • Having a valid driver’s license for operating two-wheelers (preferably also four-wheelers).

Key Duties and Responsibilities

HHC PROGRAM PLANNING AND DESIGN

  • Consult and coordinate with the Himali Conservation Forum, Taplejung, Bhitri Deurali Community Forest. User Group, Phungling, Red Panda Network (RPN) and other stakeholders and partners to design and deliver HHC outdoor education packages/modules and other services for various target groups.
  • Draft a work plan and budget to ensure the program is completed within the stipulated timeframe and within the budget constraints.
  • Pitch ideas and develop proposals for improving and upscaling HHC’s offerings.

HHC OPERATION AND MANAGEMENT

  • Supervise and manage Human Resources at the HHC by holding weekly work plan-cum-review meetings and regular briefings, and resolving disputes and grievances, if any.
  • Create a conducive and safe space on the HHC premises for the staff and visitors alike.
  • Oversee the repair, maintenance, and overall security of the HHC facilities and the outdoor education spaces on its premises by working closely with vendors, contractors and local authorities.
  • Manage and update the entire financial transactions of the HHC.
  • Develop news and progress reports on a regular basis.

HHC OUTDOOR EDUCATION MODULE DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION

  • Provide necessary backstopping and guidance to the contractors and workers while setting up or constructing outdoor education facilities as and when needed.
  • Package cost-effective outdoor activities that are novel, fun, and challenging as part of the outdoor education program and spearhead the acquisition of tools, equipment, and materials required for the smooth running of the program.
  • Oversee the capacity building of the staff and volunteers to deliver outdoor education packages and services satisfactorily based on a sound pedagogy and per the Program Cycle Handbook.
  • Ensure the smooth, timely running of the outdoor education activities per the program schedule and build close partnerships with the visiting groups.
  • Execute the marketing of the HHC outdoor education packages and other services, targeting various target groups in close coordination with the market promotion committee.
