About the organization
Sunny Travels & Treks began with the desire to bring others on the journeys we have been making for generations. "We" means the Sunny Travel staff and our forbearers. For Generations our Tibetan Buddhist culture hidden in trans-Himalayan canyons on the Nepal side of the border with the Tibet Autonomous region has been exploring the great landscapes of Nepal , Tibet , Bhutan and India . We traveled in small groups, integrated with the physical and social worlds through which we journeyed. When we started Sunny Travel in the early 1990s, we hoped to share the places we knew and loved with others who were open and eager for new adventures. We didn't label this ecotourism, or sustainable travel or responsible tourism. We only knew that we wanted our travel groups to be small enough not to overwhelm the experience; we wanted others, too, to interact directly and respectfully with local people and natural environments rather than drain local resources, making a contribution to their Preservation. We remain committed to the idea that local people and communities can tangibly benefit from this idea, which we continue today as one of the leaders in our field.
