Role overview

Working at project location – In this role, you will provide on-site support in the project location and/or VSO office, (full-time unless otherwise specified) for a set period of time.

The National Volunteer-Youth Engagement Coordinator will work towards promoting meaningful youth engagement at VSO’s practice areas through Active Citizenship Through Inclusive Volunteering and Empowerment (ACTIVE) project. The volunteer will facilitate and influence key actors in the adoption and socialization of global volunteering standards. The volunteer will also support Citizen-Led Monitoring (CLM) processes that promote Citizen Engagement in Data Collection and follow-up the SDGs/VNR by generating Youth-led Citizen Data. The volunteer will also contribute to the promotion of a National Volunteering Policy with the embedding of Global Standards and encourage responsible and impactful volunteering. The Coordinator will also help with strengthening Youth Networks working with civil society and government counterparts.
Additionally, they will work towards capacity building in Youth Engagement, Right to Food, and Climate Leadership. Furthermore, they will advocate to monitor disruption of essential health services with input tracking data tools to influence policy and guidelines implementation while encouraging Inclusive Education Policy.

Skills, qualifications and experience

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

Knowledge/qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in social science/ development studies with one year or intermediate degree with three years’ experience on development preferably on social accountability strengthening, volunteer management, SDGs and volunteer policy and, or relevant subject.

Experience:

  • Previous experience of working with youth and volunteer-based organizations/themes including SDG monitoring and facilitation and accountability tools.
  • Learning on adoption of SDGs and social accountability tools.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Coordinate and facilitate capacity building interventions (Training/workshops)
  • Facilitating consultation through participatory approaches like FGDs and KIIs.
  • Linkage and networking with government agencies, CSOs mainly youth led CSOs and other development actors
  • Language (Nepali and English)-Sound typing skills

Desirable Criteria: (skills that could be an advantage in the role)

Knowledge/qualifications:

  • Well acquainted with SDGs and its interlinkages and adoption of citizen led monitoring tools like CSC.

Experience:

  • Previous experience of working in SDGs monitoring, volunteering policies and practices and facilitating community score card.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Training and workshops facilitations (Face to face and virtual)
  • Working closely in a team, partners and with wider level of stakeholders.

Allowance and Accommodation to volunteers at VSO

Allowance:

As a VSO volunteer, you will be sharing your skills with local communities on a full time basis. VSO will cover your travel, vaccinations, accommodation, and medical insurance costs, along with a local living allowance which will be paid in local currency. This allowance meets reasonable living expenses in country, but will not be enough to send money home. You will also receive some financial support to contribute to your on-going expenses at home.

Accommodation:

VSO works with some of the poorest communities in the world which means accommodation varies and will be basic.
