Role overview

Working at project location – In this role, you will provide on-site support in the project location and/or VSO office, (full-time unless otherwise specified) for a set period of time.

The purpose of this role is:

  • Ensure project implementation is on time, target, and budget to reach desired impacts.
  • Monitor quality assurance processes and systems to ensure the highest quality of the project implementation, risk management.
  • Work in a project team and seek guidance from Program Development and Quality team to ensure that relevant data are collected, analysed, and used to inform management and design decision, and to provide programme updates, as required.
  • Support project team for quarterly and annual report.
  • Develop capacity of project team and implementing partners for writing case studies, collect videos and pictures.

Knowledge/qualifications

  • At least a bachelor’s degree with a priority in social studies/development studies.
  • Experience of working in a project context within international development.
  • Clear understanding of project cycle management tools to ensure effective planning, resourcing, implementation, and review of programmes /projects.
  • Activity planning, facilitation, and planning/follow-up skills.
  • Previous experience with mobile data collection (KOBO, Survey CTO, ODK)
  • Work pro-actively, can prioritize work to meet deadlines and handle work pressure.
  • Creative, open-minded, flexible, team player, having the aptitude for community mobilization and capacity building.
  • Good numerical, report writing and administration skills with problem solving ability.

Desirable requirements

  • Advanced understanding of research, monitoring and evaluation approaches and methodologies
  • Strong computer skills and data management skills
  • Skilled in handling data, ability to analyse and synthesize data and evidence from different sources.
  • Being up to date on the current data analysis methodologies
  • Experience in research, teaching and training.
  • Experience in using the technology.

Skills/Abilities

  • Able to frequently travel.
  • Able to accommodate in diverse socio-economic, and multicultural context.
  • Fluent in English, Nepali (typing as well) and motivated to learn
  • Proven and practical knowledge of peer-to-peer support to share experience and learning.
  • Have enthusiasm and the adequate knowledge and experience to continuously monitor, write and evaluate project results and reports on a quarterly and annual basis
  • Good interpersonal skills combined with a flexible and adaptable attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills with good command of both spoken and written.
  • Ability to work with people from diverse background and respect implementing partner working culture and sensitive towards community values and beliefs.

Allowance and Accommodation to volunteers at VSO

Allowance:

As a VSO volunteer, you will be sharing your skills with local communities on a full time basis. VSO will cover your travel, vaccinations, accommodation, and medical insurance costs, along with a local living allowance which will be paid in local currency. This allowance meets reasonable living expenses in country, but will not be enough to send money home. You will also receive some financial support to contribute to your on-going expenses at home.

Accommodation:

VSO works with some of the poorest communities in the world which means accommodation varies and will be basic.
