The Netherlands Leprosy Relief (NLR) is a professional organisation working in leprosy and disabilities. Annually more than 200,000 new cases are detected, amongst which over 3,000 in Nepal. 

The organization is active in 9 countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America with a budget of € 10 million. NLR Nepal has been established in the year1977. Its annual budget is around € 425,000 and it is active in 27 districts (all 14 in province no 1, Saptari, Siraha and Parsa in province no 2, Gorkha in province no 4 and all 9 in province no 7).

The main partner for leprosy control is the Ministry of Health of Nepal. In provinces and district level NLR Nepal works closely together with Disabled Persons Organisations (DPOs) and h other important stakeholders such as local governments, health institutions, universities and hospitals. 

The NLR Nepal team consists of 17 staff. NLR provides technical support, on the job training, and coaching to health workers, local NGOs and DPOs.

NLR is currently going through a transition process where all Country/Regional Offices are transformed into local NGOs working together in an Alliance with NLR. In light of this process, a new Country Director is needed to strengthen the capacity of the organisation to be able to stand on its own feet, to raise its own funds and to be embedded in the Nepalese civil society. The new Country Director will lead the organization through this transformation process and will become the CEO once the process in finalized. The Country Director needs to have the Nepalese nationality.

What does the work imply?

As Country Director, you will be responsible for the management of the office and coordinate and supervise the overall NLR programme in Nepal. You will contribute to the proper positioning of NLR Nepal, creating and strengthening alliances and partnerships. You will look for strategies to raise Institutional Fundraising for the projects and programmes. You will ensure proper utilization of funds from NLR and other donors who contribute to the programme. This includes ensuring a well-functioning PME and Learning practice. You will foster and maintain a good cooperation with all relevant stakeholders.

In the light of the transition process you will strengthen the capacity of the organisation, establish and ensure the well-functioning of the new local NGO including its governance, programs and organizational performance.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a senior all-round manager with the following qualifications, experience and competencies:

Academic qualifications:

  • Master degree in Medicine, Public health, social developments or another relevant field

Experience and Competencies:

  • You are a senior all round Manager with a relevant, academic degree, and management experience in NGOs. This also includes experience in financial management, PME, HR management
  • You have a minimum of 7 years in public health, leprosy or disability related field, community development or any other field that is relevant for the position
  • You are a networker and easily find your way with Nepalese and international stakeholders. You have proven experience in Institutional Fundraising and you have managed donor-funded projects.  Besides strong leadership, you have proven strategic skills including decision making and networking. You have excellent communication skills. You know what is needed to build a strong local organisation embedded in the Nepalese civil society and are able to attract the support of stakeholders to work towards independency. You like developing new ways in order to improve the functioning of the organization. You are fluent in English, both verbally and in writing.The Country Director needs to have the Nepalese nationality
